Updating A Controller

Discus and support Updating A Controller in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; So.. sorry for the dumb question but what does this do? Do i have to to do this to all controllers?     controller software update?

    It is just a firmware (software) update to improve/add functionality or patch issues the controller might have. Updating a controller is really not different than updating any other device.

    The controller will have an update occasionally.

    some of thee updates allow 3rd party headsets to be plugged into it

    and better control functions

    yes just use the charge cable and select update controller invsettings yesvyou need to do it to each pad and headset

    It fine tunes the controller, more precise, better trigger feedback...etc. I'm not sure if the Play/ charge kit works, I think you need to use a Micro USB cord. Plug the Micro USB into the controller to the Xbox One then click update controller.

    The plug and play charge kit is a micro USB, this is how I updated mine. Make sure you have your headset adapter plugged in though, because I think it updates that also

    I just use the USB cord that came with my phone.

    My question is after I update, the "update controller" tab in settings still shows active. How does one tell when there is a new controller update?

    So far,the only way is to read updates details,on Xbox preview forum,Xbox Wire,Major Nelson blog.

    So far I've not updated any of my controllers. I've had no problems playing games on my One.
    Updating A Controller :) Apparently my mad skills must overshadow the "fine tuning" the updates do? lol But seriously, I've had no reason to update them. No headset issues, etc...

    @Goth do you use headset mic that came with the one or something hooked up to the stereo headset adapter?

    I think it made me update the first time I hooked up my headset adapter, has that changed, or is my memory just foggy?

    Update XBox controller support has steps to update the controller firmware.
    It did not say "Start update" or the update is available for xbox one controller.

    Controller Update for Stereo Headset Adapter Fails

    It sounds like the controller update also updates the headset adapter as the instructions state plug in headset/adapter before updating . So if you have updated the controller with out the headset adapter plugged in its possible that the console will think
    the controller is updated but not recognize that the adapter isnt and then fail or say that the controller is upto date . The only way around this maybe to get a new controller or a controller that hasnt been updated and try the update again . Or try the
    headset adapter in a friends controller that has had the update done and see if it works
