Why does the XBox download stuff soooo slow?

The Season 5 download for Modern Warfare for example.

I started the XBox Download, about 45 mins later i started the update on my PC.

The XBox is on ethernet, the PC is on wireless.

3 hours later, the PC had done the Modern Warefare update, it had done 32 app updates through the Microsoft store & it had done 3 system updates, rebooted, done a GPU driver update & rebooted.

The XBox Modern Warfare update had downloaded 1.71 GB... 3.4%?

I ledt it on and went to bed.

Speaking of updates, i have the background downloads option selected to keep everything up to date.

Nothing ever seems to be kept up to date.

Just tonight, i was having problems playing a BR, so i thought i would delete the BR Player app & re-install it.

It took nearly 5 minutes?

I'm on a 50/20 plan, i did a network test on the XBox, it said it was connected at like 40.8Mbps.

But everything, the BR app for example, downloads sooo slow.... Like 20kbps??!!

For a company that talks about all this Cloud stuff & game streaming, what the hell is going on????

Not to mention the lack of Dolby Vision with physical media.

Download Speeds does take certain factors including your internet download speed as well as when you are downloading it. If alot of people are downloading the update at the same time it will hinder the speed of download.

See, i started this latest ridiculous update for Modern Warfare, which on everything else (pc & PS4) is like 1 GB, but on here its bugged & is 66.31 GB???

Season 5 update sizes:

PS4 = 34GB

Xbox = 50 GB

PC = 54 GB

PS4 is presumably smaller due to lower resolution textures. (?) Regardless, not sure where you're getting that 1GB from.

Your download speeds in general are way too slow, though. I don't have any such issues with my console, which downloads at close to max bandwidth.

If you keep your console in "instant on" mode, perhaps try a hard reset?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm willing to bet it's just the servers being overloaded. And/or, their setup for pushing updates is just trash. (P2P is an excellent method, yet i have a feeling they don't use it. Modern warfare is HEAVILY played and if we're
all trying to download at same time, servers would be overwhelmed.Add some more servers/bandwidth & think it's problem solved.... I think. I'm at 99.8% and it's been crawling since at least 98.8%... i get bursts up to ~25mbps then it slows to ~500kbps,
then stops for a few seconds...repeat. idk, but that sure need to address this issue

I watched Project Power, then went & showered etc, so its been a couple of hours since & the download is only at 4.08 GB, 6.2% & is currently jumping all over the place.

As i started typing, it was on 300 kbps & jumping to 500 & 1000kbps.

Now its actually jumping around 25-30 Mbps.

Hmmm... Hopefully someone read my post and fixed it. 🤔😄

Its not the Season 5 update.

I've done that already.

This is what ever patch they have released today.

PS4 & PC was around 1 GB or 1.4 GB.

But for some reason the XBox is doing a 66.31 GB update???

Which another couple of hours later & i'm only at 30.5%, 20.21 GB & its back at 1000 kbps, jumping between that & 1.4 Mbps, oh it just went down to 500kbps.

Its not just Modern Warfare though, i understand that a hell of a lot of people play it, the BR Player APP, which is only a few MB, took nearly 5 minutes.

Mean while my lappy smashed the 1 GB update for MW & was ready to go.

But it doesn't seem to just be the XBox. I've had issues with Game Pass too, games fail to install on the PC, they wont launch & tonight, for a few hours ive been trying to install Mechwarrior 5 on Game Pass on my lappy, its done 1.34 GB of 43.56 GB & ks
struggling along at around tbe same speed, jumping between 500kb/s & 1.7 Mb/s.

But BattleNet smashed the updates for WoW & MW no worries.

I have all the rest mode, background updates and stuff turned on on the XBOX, yet there's 12 updates that need to be done?

Plus there's 2 in my queue, incuding MW.

For a company that wants to push all this Cloud computing stuff & online everything, streaming game play etc... Their servers seem pathetic & their update system is broken.
