Updates download location

No they’re games and apps updates

Yeah I understand this, but like I said before...all the games are in the external, but for whatever reason is upgrading and updating to the internal.

This behaviour only occurs on Series X|S optimised games and only on the series X|S console.

Basically, if you have an Series X and your Xbox One game has been optimised for the system it will be moved to the faster storage during the update.

That makes sense...so let me ask you this...will “not optimized “ games work any slower if I run them from an external hard drive rather than the actual internal drive?

Yeah,it is a bit odd as it shouldn't be doing it if you have the external drive set as your default drive.

I have my games on my external drive & apps on the internal but in the past i did have a time when updates for certain games redownloaded the whole game again & downloaded it to my internal drive but that hasn't happened for quite a while now.

Not sure what else to suggest but i'll have a nose around some other places later & see if anyone else has had this & if there is a solution.

That’s what’s confusing to me, the games are all in the external drive yet is downloading the upgrades and updates to the internal, when the external is set up for default download location. I’ve tried rebooting a few times and double checking all the settings

They should download to where your games & apps are then.

The system wont download a game update to a hard drive if the game isn't on that hard drive.

Have a look at your storage devices in the console settings just to make sure no games or apps are stored on the internal drive & your external drive is set to default for downloading games & apps.
