Update wiped my hard drive

Just came home to see a setup screen for a clean console install as well.

Problems connecting to Xbox live

New update wiped out my hard drive

no i haven't saved anything to the cloud

 

Forced update for what? Game or OS?

 

I got the same thing, but I was playing destiny. Wiped all my games, dlc etc... It's gonna take forever to reinstall them all. Getting pretty fed up with Xbox, had nothing but problems since I bought the thing. Last year I got refunded for bf4 premium because
of all the issues. I was told I would still be able access all the premium dlc UNTIL I moved consoles or reinstalled it. That day has now come

 

Yeah it was an os update. It kicked me off my game to do it. Yeah I've had loads of problems too Daney. I bought the console January last year and I'm already on my 3rd console and 2nd kinect, which is ridiculous. Was so close to getting PS4 but my friends
are on Xbox n I prefer the exclusives. Yeah I love bf4 n have premium but I was so sick of the problems that I didn't play it for months until it was fixed. I Play it now though and it's an awesome game.

 

I wouldn't have been so annoyed about installing again but I've not had my 3rd console for that long so only recently installed my games. And gta is such a big game it's going to take hours just for that to install completely.

 

Internal HD only? What about the external? Did it wipe that?

 

In the whole time ive had X1 ive never seen this reported by X1 owners on these forums or anywhere else. I have all my games and DLC backed up on an external drive.

Im guessing you didnt take that precaution?

Also are you in preview OS?

 

None of us here can help with this. I suggest you contact support to share your experience and possibly put a halt to the update until they can fix the issue.

 

Yeah preview OS, reinstalling everything is extremely tedious but the console by design has made it fairly easy to get access to everything I had and queue it up, and all the saves are cloud based so no real loss there.

I would have to say though despite all the massive initial problems the console itself even with this is far better than it was a year ago.

But yeah a 7200RPM external drive is starting to look really nice right about now.

I'm not on preview os. Yeah I wasn't annoyed because I didn't lose anything, it's just time consuming installing my games again. Yeah it has drastically improved from a year ago. Everything runs much more smoothly and updates are constantly improving the
console.

 

All the more reason to keep all my games external, just in case...Works better for me anyways, portable drive to take with me while visiting friends/family.

 

having games on an external hdd is not an option for some people, but if the games are getting wiped and having to be re installed due to an update, this costs especially if you have limited internet connectivity, i have heard of this issue before but it
was early last year.

 

Having an external drive is an option for everyone, some just either can't afford it or choose to ignore the option.

Sure this shouldn't happen but like all things, it happens.

I'm all digital with fairly slow download speeds as soon as external drive update came I grabbed the first drive I had lying around which was only 1TB but sure would have been worth it for these poor guys that just lost there games.
