    Update issue


    My son was unable to game on xbox live. The actual reason was that his subscription fee had not cleared so he was locked out but he got no notification of this and in the meantime has tried just about everything to get back gaming.

    Eventually he deleted all accounts and did a factory reset on the console.

    On powering up , the set up process starts with establishing an internet connection (ethernet) which was fine.

    Next it looks for updates. This is as far as we can get "unable to get updates" error

    again trawled internet,forums etc and tried various things (soft/hard reset all variations) with no success

    any help with this would be much appreciated

    as we can get past the looking for updates we are also unable to access any of the settings available once the the initial console setup

    is complete.

    Hi, has it also cleared your save data cos I've had this same problem and am currently reinstalling it but want to know if there is even any point.

    Hi PayneAS! The console shouldn't need to download updates in a sequential order; the latest update includes all of the previous updates as well. However, if the update failed, it may be *partially* updated, which can be problematic, because the console
    knows that, but the version number is correct. Anyway - Can you again try taidara's suggestion, with the console disconnected from the internet? It should then use the USB update and it *should* work. Let us know if this helps!

    (oops, hit post by accident)

    I did as suggested above. Still not working. The download bar gets to about 40% of the way done and then ticks backwards a little, then forwards, then backwards, then forwards, and finally fails. Gives me the error code Error 3F4B 0000 3080
    0505 8007 5070     again. If what the help topic (I linked earlier) says is true, that I'm missing a previous update, how can I get it to download the update? It won't read the update off my USB stick. :/
