Update for initial setup

Trying to setup a new xbox one and I keep getting the same error message. Nothing is wrong with the network as I am able to connect the old one without problems. I tried an external update with a usb drive but it keeps displaying the same screen "there
was a problem with the update".

Is this the initial setup update? Initial setup needs to be done online.

Initial setup update fail?

Took me 8 hours to set up mine, Nothing to do with internet/router problems its the actual update itself.

To get by this problem it is really quiet strange.

Firstly after when you select update it will start and go for about a minute maybe more then it stops with an error about downloading.

The trick is after when the error is notified just simply start again. It will start from zero% and keeps going up. Note after a short while it will jump to where the last percentage was before the next download error crap.

Continue this cycle until it is complete, I have never had so much crap from a download especially from Microsoft's leading Xbox one console.

Before getting a new HDD, try clearing the console cache by going to settings on the dashboard, go to memory, and then press Y on the HDD and hit clear cache. If this doesn't help I would try formatting the HDD as well.

Based on your problem returning, it's possible that you have a faulty harddrive. You might want to contact support and see if the hard drive is covered under warranty:

followed the above and was fine untill this morning 25 jan, turned off the console last night after having no problems, then this morning i was asked to run the setup again

That is because you are using Time Warner (Spectrum) internet service. That is a known issue with that service and has been going on for over a year. The best solution is to run the console wired instead of wireless if possible. You should contact them
to see if they will provide you with a different make/model gateway. They should be well aware of the issue.
