Update error stopping connection to Xbox Live

Hello, this is my first time posting on a forum so please be patient with me. I tried to update my Xbox 360 about a month ago. It didn't download after it went halfway through the download, so naturally i tried again and again to no avail. So then I tried
all fixes I could at the time and now I'm getting a new error message. It says an update is needed to connect to Xbox Live but is currently unavailable. This has been going on for about a month now and I'm starting to worry. I've searched everywhere I could
on the web and found no solution. Is this something that can be fixed or am I doomed to go get a new Xbox? Please, any info and/or help, anyone can provide is highly appreciated!

I had the same problem, which was really confusing for me to start with, I couldn't do anything online because the xbox one wanted me to accept updated terms and conditions to start with, when it did this I got a error which stopped me connecting to live, and although I could browse the web I couldn't get on the live service

to get round this I went to the xbox live account on my pc and accepted them there - it then worked instantly.

however from previous threads it seems like your already on live.

Maybe a problem with your connection. what is your internet like? you using eathernet or wifi to connect the console?

Have you tried reformatting your console? Also, what happens when you test the Xbox Live connection?

Thank you for responding to my post here. I don't know if I have reformatted it a quick sum up of it will allow me to answer that. But when I do test my connection to Xbox Live, it connects fine but then states I need the update but it is unavailable,
just as it has for the past month.

Ah okay! So when it tries to install the update it then fails? What error does it give you when it fails?

It might be worth a try to install the update from a USB drive. You can find the steps for that here:

support.xbox.com/.../system-updates-info

But yeah that was one of the solutions I tried when this problem came up. I followed every single step of the usb solution and it has brought me to the exact same error I'm getting. It says it needs an update but it is unavailable...

 

Sounds like you might be dealing with a hard drive issue on your console. Go ahead and reformat the console by following these steps: Go to System Settings > Storage > Select the Hard Drive, and then press Y on your controller > Select Format.

WARNING: This will erase ALL content from your console.

 

Hmmmm..... OK... I guess its better than me having to buy a new console. Thanks. But before I do that. I should probably save my saves and profiles etc on a USB. Or will doing that and transferring it back to my console still cause the problem? And BTW thanks
