It's how the Xbox is installing the update in to the original download. Just pause the update until you're ready.

Most updates for larger games tend to affect the whole game rather than just a small part of it. I've had this happen to me with games like Battlefield V, Call of Duty B04, PUBG, and as you mentioned...GTA V. Updates for these games tend to be like 10-20
Gb plus updates, so canceling it typically messes with the games files causing it to just delete as a whole. Like another user had already mentioned, pausing it is normally the best thing to do instead. Its kind of unfortunate but, as games get bigger and
bigger... they'll have to find a better way to do updates... such as prioritizing certain files that won't break the install.

Thanks for the info. It sounds as though the USB device may be buggy and that would be why you are having issues updating. I would recommend getting an official Xbox 360 hard drive for your console. The lack of an official storage device may be why you
are experiencing issues.
