Update bricked xbox

The last time I updated my xbox, it bricked my console. My console will no longer start properly when the console is turned off. It generally gets stuck on the opening logo, sometimes for multiple hours. If by some miracle it does boot to the menu
it will have serious problems. Apps and games won't launch, thumbnails won't load, and there are issues with switching between menus. I have tried opening the troubleshooter, and that has allowed me to get the console working again, but when it is
turned back off, it's the same old rigamorole. I use my xbox to watch tv, so if it's not working I can't watch, and this is getting really old. If this problem doesn't just disappear soon, I'll have to buy another console... and that console will not be a
Microsoft product. I hate having updates shoved down my throat ... holding my internet connectivity hostage in order to force me to "update" my console is a lowdown thing to do.

*UPDATE* I'm not sure if it was because of the update or not but the root cause was my power brick. Either the update affected my power brick (which I don't know if it's even possible) or the power brick was faulty and just happened to
have issues during the update. I took it to Gamestop and they plugged up a different power brick and it booted up fine. The old power brick always stays orange. If you have this issue, check the power brick.

All devices do NOT have mandatory updates, and even if they do, they typically don't break the device they're supposed to be improving. I don't mind updates, it's just that Microsoft's updates have a track record of causing issues instead of fixing
them. This wouldn't happen if updates were properly vetted before there were released. As for warranties, if it were a hardware problem, like a hard drive failure, that would be relevant. But this isn't a hardware problem,it is a software problem and it
was caused directly by Microsoft. Just tried to factory reset my console but that didn't even work properly error E102.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to read about the issues. If your Xbox is past its warranty and continues to run into issues that are not resolved with Xbox's troubleshooting guides, I personally would make the decision to buy a new console, which in turn, will come with a new
warranty and will give you a better experience.

It's your choice, which console you buy and play on, but know
that every modern device, including mobile phones, have such updates. It's something that you will have to adapt to, like the rest of us.

I stand with the comments I made, and can only leave the advice given - it's your choice, whether or not to act on it. To save frustration, I would consider a new or second hand console.

FYI: If your console is registered as part of the Xbox Insiders program, the updates are in beta and will be prone to bugs. I would encourage you to report a problem over at the

official Reddit, if this is the case, and are unable to report via the console. There is regrettably, not much else I can advise, so I leave you this, with the hope that you get up and running again soon.
