Update 1407 Broke External Drive

Hello,

I am in the Xbox One preview group and my Xbox automatically installed update 1407. When I booted up tonight I could not load any games because the Xbox failed to read or recognize the external drive where all my games are installed. No combination of
plugging and unplugging or rebooting of the Xbox or external drive fixed the problem. The external drive was working flawlessly until this latest preview update was released. Anything that can be done to fix the problem would be appreciated!

Update 1407 Breaks External Drive - Again!!

I'm in the preview and my external HDD still works with no problems.

What make and model is your HDD?

I just looked in the preview forums and can see a couple threads about USB HDD's no longer being detected after the 1407 update.

A hard power reset fixed the problem on one of the threads.

Press the power button for about 5 seconds until console shuts down. Once console has fully shut down and light on power brick turns orange you should disconnect the power for a couple of minutes.

After a couple of minutes switch on and try again

To start, this post is related to Xbox One preview update 1407. Before I yet again get told to post in the preview forums, THE PREVIEW FORUMS ARE NOT WORKING! Every time I try to access the preview forums I get "Group not Found", and yes I am in the preview
group because I get all the preview updates and messages from Microsoft about their release.

Now that we have gotten past that lets get to the problem at hand. When the update first released, I immediately lost the ability to read or even recognize the external hard drive that had been working perfectly until then. After many attempts to get it
to work (including replacing cable, unplugging, rebooting, etc) I gave up and formatted the drive on my computer. After formatting the drive I plugged it back into the Xbox One and it was recognized and started working again no problem.

It's been three days since that happened and now the
Xbox fails to recognize the external drive yet again. This update seems to be killing external drive use over and over. Please look into this for a root cause, I'll be happy to share any details I can to resolve the problem.

Does changing the new setting in power & startup not do anything either ? (When xbox is off turn off storage)

 

You'd be better off posting this in the preview group forums, there are people there who are helping with Beta issues

Unfortunately changing that setting did not fix the problem, the Xbox One still fails to recognize the external drive.

Also, when I click on that link for the preview forums, I get the same error that others have reported and receive the message "Group Not Found"

Have you seen there is a new setting in the power options for external drives?

Maybe try toggling that

Solution: Had to plug the external drive into a computer, format it, plug it back into the xbox one, let the xbox format it, and was good to go.

Don't know why this happened and had to re-download games but it the xbox now recognizes the external drive

 

I am having this problem as well. My 4tb seagate drive stopped working pretty much as soon as the update hit.
