It's not a "what if" scenario it's common sense (at least to me). You and I can go buy the same laptop today. If I clean boot mine and you leave all the pre-installed bloatware on yours my system will run faster, cooler and do my chosen task better. The
same applies to consoles.

You are correct, the One was designed to use all these features and that's what limits it in terms of games. Developers are developing games for your console and how you use it, they aren't developing for mine.

Anyone who can afford a next gen console, a HD TV and games can afford a Roku which has more apps than the One. Console gamers will learn what PC gamers learned years ago....nobody wants to watch your Twitch feeds or game videos. It's a novelty that wears
thin very quickly for most gamers and the next consoles building those features into the system is simply another hit on resource allocation.

I don't think those features make the One more marketable for developers, it hurts them. Limiting developers based on hardware limitations is never good and when you tell them they can't even use the full hardware's resources it gets worse.

 

@Artemis - Your first sentence in that statement is key. You appreciate that I am happy with the evolution of the 360, and you are not.

The simple truth is that MOST people are happy with the evolution of the 360 and regard it as one of the best systems ever made. Microsoft is continuing on that path because that's where the most money is going to be for them.

The X1 (And the competition, for that matter) are more than just gaming consoles, and that is simply not going to change.

Regarding not being able to watch gaming videos on the x1? What? That's practically all I do when I'm not playing a game. You have twitch, youtube, now trueachievements has been added for walkthroughs and achievement help. There's a vast pool of things to
do right up your alley, so I have to say... I think you're doing it wrong.

But again, it sounds to me like you want to hate the X1, so just sell the thing if you're not happy. Vote with your wallet.

I don't use any of these Apps on my Xbox 360 and Xbox One, they just sit there collecting digital dust.

I would most definitely delete them ALL if I could, since I can't, I just ignore them

Personally I don't really use any of the apps either, but...... I also understand that it's not all about what I like. A lot of people do use the apps that are there. It doesn'tbimpact me at all so I don't see the big deal. It just seems you want a reason
to complain.

That was a legitimate problem mate and you know it. This guy is complaining because he can't find videos on his console. Move on Xbox hater!

 

Randver, Artemis, and Skridger - in the end, it's all about choice. Because more devices are offering more options than ever, we now have more choices in what we choose for entertainment. The Xbox One is simply another aspect of that. It happens to be the
one that I choose, even though it may not be the one that you choose. Sure, there may be quite a bit of redundancy (for example, I can access Netflix on my PC, my console, and my Smart TV despite the fact that I still don't have a smartphone, tablet, or laptop),
but that's part of the whole being connected, always online, available on every device mentality that numerous developers from all walks of entertainment are pursuing. It's a movement, not an issue with the console itself. The console just happens to be tagging
along for the ride so it doesn't get left behind. The simple truth is that the sky-rocketing use of cell-phones and the features they have started to provide over the years have changed the entertainment landscape (for better or for worse) and the majority
of people, which may or may not include you, have literally bought into it.

I don't understand why people have the mentality that because a device can do all of these extra things that it becomes worse at doing what it originally did in the 1st place? That's entirely untrue, especially with the Xbox One. While it is true that you
can make a more powerful device dedicated purely to gaming, that doesn't necessarily make it better or sell more either. It was simply designed that way. Every entertainment device in existence is designed for a set purpose in mind before it's built. The original
Xbox was designed as a gaming device, which was only one form of entertainment. With the advent of the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One, the Xbox brand can now offer more variety in the form of entertainment it provides. With it, you can play games, watch TV and
movies, listen to music, socialize online, and all of the other things I've already mentioned in my previous posts. It's no longer just a gaming device, it's true. It's become an entertainment device - it's a gaming device, it's a media device, it's an online
device, it's a social device. It's all of these things and not just one of these things. That's why they call their newest iteration of the console the Xbox One.

A good example is the Swiss army knife. Take a regular knife - what can you do with it? Cut things (and maybe stab things too). However, with the SAK, you can do so much more - that's why it became so popular and still sells even today. Sure there may be
bigger and better knives out there without all of the features, but they still only do one thing - cut.

In the long run, it's all about progress and what people like. The simple truth is that this is what people like - their wallets have proved it. Don't like it? Then try making your own and see how well it does.

From a gaming perspective the console is getting left behind. The gap between the PC and the next gen consoles is huge but to be expected in the first year. If the gap isn't closed you're going to see developers jumping ship as gamers move to better gaming
options.

Many of the issues that stopped people from PC gaming are popping up on the One with the addition of the external hard drives and the ability to multi task. The console has always been "dummy proof" in the past and it's not anymore.

Your last statement is actually what we'll see " try making your own and see how well it does". That's what people are doing and the need for "consoles" will be a thing of the past. Who is going to buy a One or a PS4 with all their limitations when they
can buy something that puts the all the choices in their ( the consumer ) own hands.

The consoles survive by being a "dummy proof" gaming device that simplifies everything with exclusive titles that can only be played on that device. Without that you have a device that doesn't do anything better than the other options.

 

I don't see the console dying at all. It's still easier to get into than PC for most people. And cheaper. No matter how you look at it!

 

PC gaming has imporve alot compare to Window VISA nigthmare days. But Console are easier to get into for most people like DuFFuL said.

You guy both have Steam accounts. You haven't been over there today to see the start of the Fall sale? 5465 games on sale

Consoles survive because people don't know what the options are.......

 

I dont play PC that much cause i dont have thounds to spend on PC parts and stuff like that. I buy a xbox,PS4,Wii U its all there i know games will run, I dont need to buy a GTX 750 cause my GTX 650 wont run that game.

 

Hahaha! If those systems can run say assassins creed unity or even black flag as good as the Xbox or even the ps4 for that matter I'd be very surprised. Don't give me this crap about cheep PCs mate. I'm into PC as well and I know what you need to spend to
get games running well on a PC. And I've seen steam sales. It's still not enough to entice people. Consoles will live on for a long time.

That 650 will run any game that the 750 will run, it just won't look as good. I agree if you want every AAA title to run at Ultra you'll need to upgrade once a year. If your just looking to stay ahead of the current console games then that the mid range
rig will keep you gaming for years without spending a dime.
