Upcoming games

Ummm, so, I am a new X1 user, after MUCH reluctance, I finally got one, on the cheap since it was used. I am having a problem using my GAME console, to sift through the "Store" looking for videos of upcoming games. I am willing to admit, this is a disaster
to sift through and I think I'm missing it. Surely there is a place to view upcoming game videos on my game console. Please don't tell me I bought this thinking games were still first and foremost. I am within hours of throwing this on eBay if that's the case.
And no not just because of that, but everyday I discover something new, and NOT exciting, but rather frustrating. I am asking for an answer to the question of where to find the game videos, NOT a smarmy remark from the apparent majority of adolescent forum
users.

And now another question...really with the no voice messages, or am I missing that somewhere too? I ask because it's a lot quicker than using the control pad to send a text, since there's no chat pad as of yet. I DO like the headset though.

 

I think you're better off just using the YouTube app to check for preview videos, honestly. Some games have previews on their game page, but I think that's up to the publishers rather than Microsoft itself. But most of the individual developers, like Bungie
and 343 and WB Games have their own YT channel, where they post much more frequently.

King, ty, but those are just info and preorder. On the 360 I can go into games, then scroll to extras and they have a whole section just for videos. Like the RE remake and the like. That's what I'm looking for. Not to use more appLICATIONS that I don't use
anyway. But if that's the case, then cest la vie, I've learned my lesson, luckily I spent $150 on this console so I can still make some money on it. Maybe it'll be in better shape by the time the DOOM beta arrives, who knows. Well people, there will be an
advanced warfare console on ebay by Friday. Minus the game, as I downloaded it, but never played it what with all the problems!! It will have DA I, and Shadow of Mordor though.

 

Wish I had more time to edit my post after I post 'em...anyway, Jett, ty for the info too, although I have a serious issue with using yet another appLICATION to do something that was inherent with the 360 for so many years. I don't have my game console on
to go to a third party website to watch videos or get my game info for my game console. But again, my personal preference, everyone has their own. I want games on a console and info on my laptop.

 

It sounds to me like you really want to hate the X1 and are looking for any/all reasons to do so.

The UI isn't perfect yet, (At least in my eyes) but it plays games just fine. Remember the 360 was not perfect on launch either, it took years for them to get it where it is today. Remember the blades? You couldn't do much in them. In fact the blades never
really left, a slimmer version of them still serves as the settings menu.

The X1 has been drastically improved since launch and I expect it to be drastically improved moreso over the next year as well.

Having said all that, if the UI is still unacceptable to you, sell it. You can always come back to it later down the road if you so choose.

 

Use SmartGlass on your phone to send messages. It's much easier. Or, send a message here on xbox.com.

As others have mentioned, most game companies just release videos for their products either A) on their website and/or B) on YouTube.

If something like this is swaying you to sell the console, then as you put it "c'est la vie".

 

@skridger, while I can appreciate that you are happy with the eveolution of the 360, I am not one of those individuals. I in fact thought the blades were perfect. WITHOUT an avatar. I enjoyed my GAME console. So while the 360 GAME console slowly evolved
into a pc, I was becoming less and less satisfied with the functionality of what I ORIGINALLY purchased it for. I didn't purchase it to watch tv, I have a tv for that. I didn't purchase it to use bing and ie. I have a laptop for that, WITHOUT bing or ie. I
most certainly did not purchase it for SOCIAL appLICATIONS. I DON'T use those. I play games. SO, it took a LOT for me to finally dive in to the X1, even though it's a glorified pc to watch tv on. I have tried/ am trying to figure out if it's really worth it.
It comes down to a decision to be made by ME, if the windows 8 box is worth dealing with to play DOOM and The Witcher 3. And no, Egg, there are a lot of other places to view videos, but viewing game videos from a game console SHOULD be a no brainer/ as is
the case with the 360. And umm, guys, the 360 was leaps and bounds ahead of the XBox when it came out. And it all worked. An overheating issue is hardware, NOT software. The 360 began to not function as originally designed once we started dealing with forced
updates that changed it every time to be more and more like a pc. If I wanted a PC to game on, I'd hook my laptop up to the HDMI on my tv and use it. And using smartglass, a tablet, a phone while I am playing? Seriously? Let me explain myself in two sentences.
I don't have my phone plastered to my face EVERYwhere I go. I spend LESS than 5 minutes a day ON my phone. That means therefore, that I enjoy games for the escape and suspension of disbelief that they provide. I love storytelling. I don't WANT to be pausing,
picking up yet ANOTHER device to do what should be able to be done on the GAME console. I....Play....GAMES, I AM a gamer. NOT a social butterfly.

 

Personally, and no offense Artemis, but I think your arguments regarding the Xbox 360 have no real merit to them. All of the things you've mentioned not liking about the 360 were purely optional. Don't want to watch movies or TV? Then don't download the
Netflix, Hulu Plus, or HBO Go apps, etc. Don't want to surf the web? Then don't download the Internet Explorer app. Don't want to be sociable? Then don't download the Facebook app. It was and still is that easy - it's all purely optional; you don't have to
use or even add any of it to your console. That's why I think your argument has no real merit. And the Xbox One? It works the exact same way - if you don't want any of the media/Internet/social aspects of the console, and only want to use the console for gaming,
then you can! Nobody ever said you had to use those things or even put them on your console - it's all there simply if you want it to be.

Despite the fact that MS originally tried to market the media aspect of the Xbox One console to consumers when the console 1st released, the media is no more or less important than any other aspect of the console. It's simply a device that can be used to
play games, watch movies or TV, listen to music, socialize online, and so on... Thinking that it does one aspect better or more-so than the other is really a rather childish line of thinking, I think (and again, I mean no offense - it's just how I see it).

Regarding your original posts however, it's actually pretty easy to view game videos. From the home screen simply press right on the d-pad or left joystick or press your right bumper to navigate to the store tab. From there simply use your d-pad or left
joystick on your controller to navigate to the games section in the store. From there, you can browse new releases, add-ons, demos, or even search for specific games using a search function. When you select a game, it will take you to the info page where you
can view trailers, recent players' clips, any live streams currently being broadcast via Twitch, and images of the game as well as a description for the game (that includes pertinent info like price, file size, release date, number of players, etc.). You can
even view any add-ons the game may have and/or purchase/re-download those as well as the game itself.

While I agree with you that the console is by no means perfect (even I would like to have voice messages), I personally don't believe that you've spent enough time with the console in order to get used to it. It has a bit of a learning curve since it's so
different from previous consoles, but once you get past that initial hump, the UI actually becomes 2nd nature and is very intuitive and easy to use overall...

I agree with the OP in regards to all the apps. They aren't optional. If we use them or not is irrelevant, the fact that they are available impacts all of us.

Developers have to take into consideration that people will be using those features (Twitch, Snap, not shutting down apps, etc) and allocate the resources for game development accordingly. A Kinectless, app-less One would have considerably more resources
available for game development than our current One which would mean better graphics, frame rates, features.

I've stated this since launch....I have a dozen devices in my house that can do the multimedia aspects of the One but only one device that can play Xbox One exclusive games. I'd prefer the One do what it was intended to do and leave the other stuff to the
devices that do the other stuff better (Roku, Fire, etc)

 

Randver, many of the devices you speak of are devices that some people, like me, don't have. I don't have a smartphone, a tablet, a laptop, etc. So, for me, the fact that the Xbox One can do all of these things is fantastic! Having more options is always
better than having less regardless of how you look at it because it makes the device more versatile overall (and in the eyes of the developers, more marketable).

In regards to the Xbox One, it was designed from the get-go to use many of those features. You can't say that if it didn't have those features that it would run better or allocate resources better - something like that simply doesn't exist because it was
never designed in the 1st place! Don't rely on "what if" scenarios for your argument - it makes for a poor debate. Instead, rely on facts and supporting evidence.
