Unused Gamertags...another one...

Hello Xbox ambassadors, im sure this is a common topic but there is a gamer tag i wanted and the user hasnt even played a game on xbox. (0 gamer score or games played woth xbox orignal picture) i know that most unused gamertags will be deleted in 2021
but i was wondering if xbox live or microsoft could reach out on my behalf with the owner to ask them to communcate ith me for the gamer tag. I know microsoft would NEVER give out information but is there anyway to contact the owner? Maybe even know what microsoft
device he might be using that gamertag on so i could communicate with that person? Maybe not but thought i would ask. Just any form of communication that i could get would be great! Thanks

There has only been one time that unused gamertags were released from Microsoft, and I doubt it will happen anytime soon. So, please select a different one.

Hello! unfortunately that's not possible. you'll have to wait and once it becomes available you can get it.

I think its wait 5 years inactive before you can grab it so sadly that is all you can do is wait it out.

There were actually a couple of mass releases. And Microsoft now has a policy to free up a tag if the owner has not signed into the account for 5 years (starting in 2016).

Even if the gamertag you want is not being used on xbox it is still attached to a Microsoft account that can be using other products and services of Microsoft.
