Unstable XBL Connection, No Friends list/Party chat, no Multiplayer, what gives?

For going on a week now my Xbox One (and Xbox 360) have been dealing with what first started out as minor annoyances like the party chat or friends list not loading 40-60% of the time and occasionally getting dropped random server drop messages from games
like Destiny has only escalated through Thanksgiving weekend and into this week. It is now to the point where 95% of the time I can't see my Friends list, I'm lucky if the Party chat works at all and if it does allow me into the party I can sometimes have
it go silent for an hour plus and then magically start working again, and most games that I play that have any sort of multiplayer element to them are unplayable whether from the game telling me that I don't have Xbox Live Gold (paid through 5/2015 last I
checked) or that I'm not connected to the internet (tell that to the 3 PC's and PS3 all working perfectly fine when I fire them up and check...), I'm at wits end. Here are the troubleshooting steps I've taken so far to see what helps and what doesn't:

- Cycled the wireless modem

- Soft and Hard resets of the Xbox One

- Removed/Readded the Wireless network to the XBO (where most of my efforts have been, figure I'd start with the most used of the two consoles)

- Did a forced check for System updates and downloaded the most recent update

- Verified my Network status and NAT type. Almost all the time, even when the dash "crashes" and shows no friends list or Store tabs, it shows that there is no Service issues and that my NAT type is OPEN.

I've talked with the ISP and they say things look fine from their side, and since things work fine for the 3 PC's and PS3 they strongly suggested I speak to MS/Xbox support since to them it sounded like an issue with either my hardware (hardly unlikely for
both consoles to suddenly start having the same issues at the same time...as countless others here on the forums) or the XBL network itself. And then hearing about the supposed DDoS attacks by the hacker group...makes me wonder if that issue has been building
for a while, or if this is totally unrelated. Regardless, I'd just love to be able to play the consoles and use them for more than Hulu and Netflix which ironically both seem to still work fine (although Hulu has crashed a number of times the last few days
as well, but I digress...). I'm baffled because generally when something goes wrong on my end I can troubleshoot and isolate something that has changed to be cause, especially if it seems to be widespread across multiple platforms connected to the internet.
In this case nothing has changed, it is like my XBL has suddenly become a whiny toddler who just refuses to cooperate with me in my gaming efforts and is non-communicative in my efforts to determine why. Help!

party chat ......Whats going on?

My friends have also told me that when I do show up online that every 5-10 minutes they will get a pop-up notification that I'm online again, like I just logged on, even if I've never signed off or have been voice chatting with them the whole time. Not
sure if it is related to all this or not, but it started happening around the same time, but my XBO now has issues with its Kinect visual recognition sign-ins, where it will pop-up saying "Sorry, Please use a Controller to Sign-in.", but not all the time.

does it say you have high packet loss when you test multiplayer connection?

 

No, when I test it I am having next to 0 packet loss majority of the time. My wireless strength also shows consistently from 90-100%. Most of the other devices in the house connect via wireless as well, mainly 1 laptop, the 360, and the PS3, with 2 desktop
PC's connected wired to the modem. It is only the Xbox systems connecting via wireless having any problems with connectivity which is what has me baffled.

 

After doing some research here on the forums, and around the net, found that my issue could be related to wi-fi channel interference. So I looked up how to change that on my modem...and my modem borked the settings update. Needless to say, after resetting
my modem to factory defaults and restoring my wireless settings back to where they had been I've had none of the issues I'd posted about originally. Still having the normal occasional Xbox One party chat issue, which has been going on since I had the console
so no surprise there, and can usually be resolved through perseverance and/or a hard reset (for a short while).

So anyone else having these sorts of random connectivity issues, besides the XBL issues that are on-going and well documented, perhaps a reset of your modem/router to factory defaults and resetting your configuration clean can help clear it up. I don't
fully understand it, because all diagnostics on both consoles AND the modem were consistently reporting no errors, so who knows. Hope it helps someone, since support never got back to me (or many others...).
