I have owned Xboxes from the very beginning, however I have had to replace three Xbox consoles and three xbox360's and now I'm sending in my Xbox One for replacement. Always just outside of warranty, they are not cheap and for the price they cost they should
be more reliable. My PC is use more and lasts longer, very disappointed with
hardware that is always breaking down and Microsoft that does not try harder to make its hardware better.

    :)

  2. A more powerful Xbox One? Thunderbolt crossfired 7790s?

In the next 10 years you will more likely see a next generation console than expansion hardware.

Consoles will tend to have a bit of a higher failure rate than PCs. In general of course.

That's because the hardware in consoles is pretty good and that tends to produce heat when under load.

Microsoft may design their consoles well, okay maybe not the initial run of the 360, but they have to strike a balance between airflow and keeping the console quiet for the living room. My PC can sound like a airplane taking off when underload as all the
system and PSU fans kick into action.

Take regular breaks when gaming, you should anyway, and turn the console off so the heat disappates a bit more quickly. Get some compressed air and blow the dust out of your system. Keep it in the coolest part of the room that you can.

Maintaining your system is easier than having to send it off.

also the solder that is used these days has to be lead free the means they don't flex when hot but break and this also leads to failure, i personally have had very little issues with any xbox's since i got my first one in 2002.

I have only had to send in 1 360 out of the entire Xbox Family (Original, 360, One). I guess I'm lucky.

I would not recommend the canned air as it just blows the dust around inside the console. If you could open the case (opened consoles void the warranty), I would say do it as the dust could exit the console.

A better tip would just keep the area where you keep your console clean and cool.

  7. Between 02 and 04, i had DDE after DDE even with brand new games, XBS kept saying its now repaired, when in fact it wasn't. Fed Ex was at my door more than i got to actually play the console.

Then with only 2 days left on a 2 year warranty, they replaced it with yet another console. But that one, when plugged in, shot sparks out the back and. "Sorry about your luck, OOW repairs costs x amount. Would you like to set up a repair?"

I still have that Xbox (Old sparky)

So I stopped buying early editions and waited till the 360 slim came along b4 buying. Still running like a top. (knock on wood)

X1 issues thus far has been on the software side. Freezing games and even aps, on accasion sound goes out. At 1st i thought it was my tv, but it only happens with the x1, not the P4 nor any other device. But given the way XBS handeled things in the past.
I would rather NOT go through that again.

"My PC can sound like a airplane taking off when underload as all the system and PSU fans kick into action."

You know they make quieter fans, so that really has nothing to do with anything.

"Get some compressed air and blow the dust out of your system"

Never, never, never, never do this. If you want to clean it, use a small vacuum with a brush on the outside, and if necessary, open it up and vacuum inside as well. Compressed air just blows the dust around inside, usually blows more dust into the console,
and often causes it to get stuck in places it shouldn't be and causes more problems in the end. It's fairly common knowledge these days that compressed air should not be used to clean electronics.

I'd be a little wary of the compressed air. I put my console in a drawer as soon as I'm finished and then a few hours later after its cooled I put a cloth over it to keep it clean.

Yeah, definately shouldn't use compressed air on your console.

If the op has only been through 7 consoles since the original xbox i'd say they were lucky,i've been through a lot more than that due to one thing or another.

  11. Never used compressed air?

I'd never recommend it on a PC, since you can open the machine and clean it directly, but how do you think you are going to get the dust out of a console?

The only area vacuums are going to hit are around the fans, face it home vacumm cleaners are not that powerful. There is a big bunch of space in a console that won't be cleaned with just a vacuum cleaner.

A quick puff of compressed air will shift settleed dust that a vacuum alone will not get.

If you could open your console I would not recommend compressed air at all, but you can't without being banned can you.

This is taken from the online manual for the xbox one:

    • Clean the outside of the Xbox One only. Make sure that no objects are inserted into ventilation openings. • Use a dry cloth—do not use abrasive pads, detergents, scouring powders, solvents (for example, alcohol, gasoline, paint thinner, or benzene), or
other liquid or aerosol cleaners. • Do not use compressed air. • Do not use DVD head cleaner devices. • Do not attempt to clean connectors. • Clean the console feet and the surface on which the Xbox One rests with
a dry cloth. • Clean the surface on which the sensor rests with a dry cloth.

And the day I trust Microdft on hardware is the day I think Surface tablets are as good as they try and make them look in Hawaii Five-0.

Tell me how you get dust from the centre of the console if you can't blow it out with compressed air? Do you have a commercial vacuum that you'll allow Xbox gamers to come and use?

  14. I've only had one major issue with a console and that was the original ps1. So I been pretty lucky, but I'm having some issues with the 360 slim that I picked up this past Sunday with some sort of heating issue, but I don't know if it is an issue with the
power brick or the console as my console isn't even hot when it shuts off and the light on the brick turns red, but when I unplug the brick it goes back to orange after re-plugging. Other than that I find the consoles I've picked up to be reliable.

"A quick puff of compressed air will shift settleed dust that a vacuum alone will not get."

You even said it yourself. It will *shift* the dust, it's not necessarily going to blow it out and there's an even greater chance it's going to force it into other places within the console. If you want to damage your electronics for no good reason then
go for it, but don't go around suggesting that others should do the same without mentioning the chances of just making things worse.

"If you could open your console I would not recommend compressed air at all, but you can't without being banned can you."

Yes, you can. Opening the console will void your warranty if it's still active, but you're not going to get banned for it unless you start modding it or replacing parts.
