Unreleased OG Gamertags still?

With the huge gt release, I was lurkin at a certain one for about 9 hours and didnt get it, and it originally had 0 gamerscore 0 friends and white avatar. The next day, I see its claimed and some1 with gamerscore and avatar on the profile. 2 days after,
I was just lookin around for gamertags if any were still available and I've found about 3 that are pretty OG, and their account had 0 gamerscore, 0 friends, white avatar meaning theyre abandoned. Is there any way I can get these unreleased gamertags? Because
I'm 101% sure that they are abandoned since original xbox, since they dont even have the default xbox 360 avatar. If not, when will the next gamertag release be?

Forum support cannot assist in this matter, if the tag you are looking for comes up as an auto generated tag it has already been released. If you try to change it and it comes up as already taken then someone else has already picked it up.

 

If they're still on the servers there is no way for you to claim it unless the original owner changes the name or there is another gamertag release (there is no word on if/when another one will be). The tag system is in use on other Microsoft services, so
even if they're not being used on the Xbox, they could be in use elsewhere.

 

I thought they were releasing unused xbox gamertags though? Not in other MS services

 

They did release unused gamertags, but if the tags are in use in other services as well, they can't release them.

 

How can you tell if theyre used in other services? And what kind of services do you mean

 

You really can't. They're attached to your Microsoft account, so any service that you sign in using that will be attached to your gamertag, like Zune or Windows 10.

 

Nor can xbox tell you if they are active or not as it's a privacy issuw
