Unreadable disc

After approximately 10 mins of play, I get an unreadable disc popup with no error #. It simply says clean disc, which has not fixed the problem. I've had the dics professionally, buffed and even replaced it and had that disc also buffed beforehand. I still
get the same unreadable response. My other games function fine. This problem only occurs with Tiger Woods PGA 13. I called Xbox tech support and they only suggest cleaning the cache, still nothing. Any suggestions?

sounds like your laser needs to be cleaned, calibrated for more power, or replaced.

 

On both versions, I've noticed a shadow effect. So, just yesterday, the local GameStop is ordering a 3rd version from their warehouse. Take about a week. Hopefully, that will will work.

I did clean the laser, but I've never heard of having it calibrated for more power. Can you tell me or direct me to see what that involves? Thanks!

 

With my Saints Row 2 I DOWNLOADED it still says the disc error thing and I don't know what to do.

 

you should also first try to install the disc to the hard drive. sometimes i have had discs that will "crash" at certain parts, but if you install it then it takes time to retry the reads and doesn't crash since there is not a game running at the same time.
then when you use the disc it will just run from the hard drive. that's also a good way to tell it's a damaged disc. if it always fails at the same spot, then that's the location of the damaged unreadable data. if there is something wrong with the laser
it could fail reads at random times.

generally the only reasons a dvd drive would fail to read is: the laser, the motor that spins the disc, the motor that moves the laser, and the circuit board itself. that's assuming you ruled out a bad disc. if you are able to read other discs, then it
seems very unlikely to me that anything is wrong with your console at all. it could just be bad luck on getting a bad copy of the same game twice. usually though when the drive is being "picky" it would be a laser that's not reading at full capacity. failure

I returned the disc and have to wait for its replacement. FYI, the unreadable stoppage never occurred at the same spot. But routinely happened after approx. 10 mins of play. Less time if I attempted to restart. Multiple reboots would be blocked. Overnight
the cycle could be repeated.

Again the 1st version worked fine 60 days, so I was skeptical that I was snake bit twice! But all other games function normally.

The more technical calibration steps, are well beyond my skill level. I'll report back once I get the replacement.

 

Try this Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.

Select Storage or Memory.

Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller. (It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)

Select Clear System Cache.

When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes

 

When I called Xbox tech support, they talked me through clearing the cache, which I did. When I tested it afterwards, it proved ineffective. But for the 4+ years I've used this console, I'd not known to do that. (Funny, on my laptop I clear it out daily.)

 

i was told to clear the cache repeatedly, and that the more i did it, the more it would help fix my system. i see no way that could be true. if i'm not mistaken, clearing the cache simply deletes anything stored in the Cache folder of your internal drive.
that would include any older game Title Updates that don't show up under the normal location with save files and dlc. that's why i personally never clear it. so just be warned you may have to redownload soome updates. they never mention that when they
tell you to clear it. you seem to be interested in what actually happens when you do things, so i figured i'd mention that.

 

Good advice! You're reminding me of my early days in computing, I would get snookered into deleting essentials. My interest level is driven by ignorance. Regrettably, It's been known to be a real burden to most.

 

I feel badly that this thread spurred this conflict. QuickMythril, I think you for you time and insights. I'm confident that your direction will lead me to a remedy.

As for Microsoft's limitations, I can appreciate there restriction simply from a liability issue. In my case warranty is a non issue and circumstances necessitate I do what I can by way of repairs, to the extent I can. I'm guessing there must be, non-mfg
forums, where these restrictions wouldn't apply?

 

Good news/bad news! I'm not snake bit, the GameStop replacement disc is flawless; but I still get the unreadable disc popup. This is now the 3rd disc I've gone through. Its time to focus on operator/gamer error, as the culprit. I

I play only EA sports game, by my self. I was, at least until this Tiger Woods 13 never logged in. This was the 1st game that said I needed to be Xbox Live connected. A great Xbox tech, talked me through the setup procedure.

I just attempted to recreate what he did and could find the network he set up. So I hard wired it and attempted to replay the game. I got about 14 holes in before it stopped again. In closing things out I noted the 2nd network (Cisco A0392) was listed.

The only other noteworthy thing. I recall the tech telling me that I would always need to have the ethernet cable connected, when I played that game. I assumed because it was newer than anything else I use. I followed that practice sometime, but one day
forgot and noticed no ill effects. So I played it without being hard wired. I convinced myself that connectivity was necessary initially, just to perform updates. Now I'm not so sure?
