Unique gamertag, yet numbers appear on it.

The numbers show up in areas that have never been updated to work with the new system.

When you tried using the change feature to check to see if the tag was available, the system reserved that tag temporarily for that account since it thought you were going to change it. Since you went back to your regular account, the system would have given you the numbers since it saw another account trying to use the same tag. So it sounds like you changed it too close to when you tried checking for the tag for the system to release it again.

I fully understand what the numbers are used for and I would be okay with them, if they didn't appear in game! I still do not understand, why they appear, when I'm literally the only one with that ID (checked with Microsoft services AND 3rd party ones). Not to be too sassy, but even blizzard has solved this problem, by properly hiding them. I do think the problem is with the "change gamertag" service, because I am certain the numbers wouldn't be visible if I had chosen this very same gamertag with a new email and this is the main reason I'm still left confused.

If the gamertag you want has already been taken by another user, Xbox will now auto-assign an ID suffix of numbers after a #-symbol to keep everybody unique, so there's never any question about who's who. The suffix will have a smaller font size to keep the focus on your gamertag.

The only reason the numbers are added is because the gamertag is taken or is in reserved and can't be used as it is. Unfortunately there's no way to remove the numbers, except by trying to purchase another name change.

Thanks for coming to the forums. If you actually did do it twice, you would of been charged for one of the changes. So if there was no charge, then the gamer tag is most likely being used by someone. With the

new update you can have the same gamer tag now as someone else, it will only add the suffix to it. You can always chat with support and they can see if it was changed to the original also.

When you go to Contact Us,follow these steps to request a call from support:

• Step 1 ----select Xbox One
  
• Step 2 ----select see other options then subscription changes
  
• Step 3-----select show contact options
  
  Step 4 ----select request call from support
  

Once they call explain the issue and they will be able to help you. Note that these options regularly change so just keep selecting something that gives request a call from support as a contact option.
