    Unformatted Harddrive

After a recent routine update for xbox live this morning on my xbox 360 my account no longer was available to log in to on my system. This was a relatively simple fix and I just downloaded it from xbox.com, but after that my hard drive was no longer formatted
even though I have never had any problems with that for as long as I've had it. Despite following the steps for reformatting it, it still remains after 3 or 4 tries of typing in the serial number and going through the process of reformatting it.

    :)

Hi there TatorTank, Have you managed to successfully format your hard drive now? I assume you have followed the steps in this support article:

    support-origin.xbox.com/.../storage

    Format a storage device

Important When you format a storage device, it erases all of the information saved on that device and can’t be recovered. Make sure that you don’t want the information stored on that device, or that you’ve backed up the information to another device before
    you continue.

    To format a storage device

Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select
    System Settings.

    Select Storage or Memory.

Select the storage device that you want to format, and then press
    Y on your controller.

Select Format. You will see the following message:

This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?

Select Yes to format the storage device.

If prompted to enter your console serial number, do so, and then select Done. This step helps guard against accidental formatting.

The console serial number is located on the back of the console, and behind the oval door on the front of the console.

If your still having the same issue then i would advise you to try another hard drive in the console if possible as it could be that if you have had that particular hard drive for a while; it could have become corrupt in some way as most drives tend to do
after time. If you can check back with me and let me know how you are getting on.

    Good Luck

    Hi there,

if formatting it doesn't solve the issue, you could try a different hard drive (official ms 360 hard drive) like mentioned to determine if the cause is the hard drive or the console

If no other hard drive is available or a different hard drive is working, I'm afraid the only other option is to get a replacement hard drive, this may be done via
http://myservice.xbox.com or check any local stores that sell Xbox.

Side note: The update you mentioned is most likely a result of the failing hard drive, when a hard drive fails the console will think it needs an update.

So, a failing hard drive is what causes the frequent system updates? My partner's xbox has unformatted itself three times now. It's the 360s with 4gb drive. I didn't see a compartment for a hard drive like mine has (360e), either.
