Unequipping to perform upgrades?

It's silly that you have to unequip items in order to upgrade them. Is there a way to fix that in an update?

Is it just me or is holding up people impossible without unequipping your weapon?

I've played the original MGS2 on the PS2 and I've played the HD collection on the PS3 but I just can't hold up guards without shooting and/or unequipping my weapons. Is anyone else having this problem? I've tried holding X softly but the Snake/Raiden always
fire bullets =/

 

Smart Glass more then meets the eye!!!

i think it could really open options up for RTS and MMO games, imagine being able to scroll through you inventory on a smart phone/tablet and equipping/unequipping weapons...it could work for birds eye view of the battleground and calling in troops/bombs/artillery
in a RTS game. It will be the future.

Actually no, you just have to switch between characters to upgrade what they have equipped. I realized that afterward, but couldn't delete this post.

 

I'm having trouble upgrading equipment,, just can't seem to work it out?

 

You have to have equipment that has upgrade slots, most of it does have slots as far as I can tell. If you don't have any pieces to add into those slots you have to craft them at the crafting merchant from schematics you've found or purchased. Once you
have items that will fit in those slots (ie. 1 handed weapon hilt), you have to interact with the upgrade merchants (there's an area for both weapons and armor) and insert those pieces. All of these crafting/upgrading merchants are located together just outside
the town in haven. As far as I can tell, you cannot upgrade in your normal menu, it has to be done at the merchants I mentioned above.

Like Zolbar13 said it's not at a Merchant, Depending on where you are in the Story. If at Haven you first need a clothing that has Slots open. Then you need to have a crafting schematic for that level. example you cannot put a glove heavy on a light armor.
So you need a chematic for that level. You then need to first make that item and the Make weapon or Make Armor table. Once the piece is made then go to the Modify weapon or Modify Armour table switch to the character that you want to add too select them then
select which mod slot then select which mod to add confirm then do the next one. You will have a new "upgraded" beast of a ally. Pro-tip spend time to make good mods/gear for if you get a purple you can remove the gear off the previous and install it on the
new one. Only Runes cannot be removed like in previous games. If you manage to get better resources you can make a better upgrade and remove and place the old. That's why naming is important at crafting time.
