Unauthorised charges by child

Hello all, in April over a 2 week period my primary school child racked up $1800 on xbox (mostly Fortnite) on my mastercard. Hundreds of dollars over several days in ‘v bucks’. I had previously removed by Credit card details after i noticed an one off unauthorised
charge on my statement so was not expecting any further issues but he or his brother added my card details back on to the xbox without my knowledge. (Presumably microsfot would be easily able to trace this history)

I did not receive any alerts to my email or phone as the charges were being incurred as the two accounts he used was were not linked to my gmail or phone. If i had not checked my credit card statement when i did it would have been even worse.

I contacted my bank and Epic (fortnite) the same day. Epic says nothing to do with them.

i have spent several hours over 3 seperate occasions dealing with Microsoft via ‘live chats’ to try to sort a refund. Microsoft have washed their hands of it - stating that unauthorised purchases must be reported ‘once the transaction was done’. This completely
fails to appreciate i did not receive any notice! If i had recieved an alert my child had spent hundreds of dollars in a matter of minutes i would have intervened immediately.

I can’t understand how a credit card can be added to a device without being authorised by the card holder and how microsoft can take no responsibility. No point them pointing out passkey option if the parent doesn’t even know the credit card is on the device.

Dors anyone have any advice as to how to escalate this after unsatisfactory ‘live chat’ support?

Hi, can anyone help me? I am a dumb Mum who let her 9 year old son buy one upgrade of ‘coins ‘ on Fortnite. On checking bank statement today x box has taken off 7 payments!!, totalling £80. I am furious, as my son said he didn’t do more than one transaction
and I believe him. Is there any way to ge5 money back and ensure this doesn’t happen again? I have no idea about games so I am scared to let him play now on Xbox live. Any help appreciated, thanks!

I am sure this is not the answer you wanted to hear but we as the forum ambassador can not help with this. Support from billing does not visit this forms is all handled via the chat/phone support because of safety. I know this is not what you wanted to hear
but your time is better spent trying to handle this with your bank and maybe via the 18004myxbox contact number.

Thanks all for Replying - i should have said i am in Australia. The live chat agent only gave me a link to US complaints site. Does anyone knoe if there is an Australian based option? I appreciate your responses.

It's a general number for support, but you should still be able to send a complaint through them.

 

Yeah this is the best method to go with as we have no ability to do something of that sort here on the forums.
