Unable to wake Xbox One from Windows streaming app, also console does not update games in ...

Guys,

I would really appreciate your help. I have an Xbox One day one edition hardwired to my router and I have the following two problems:

1) My Xbox One is set to always on but has never updated any of my games whilst in standby mode. I am a new-ish father and don't get to game that often - Every time I do get chance and put a disc in I always
get asked to wait whilst the update is downloaded and installed. I do not have this problem with the other console! I have tried changing the standby power mode, turned the console off at the switch and then set the settings back to always on but this has
not helped.

2) I am unable to turn on my Xbox One console from the Windows 10 Xbox app. Streaming works perfectly but only if the console is already on so I have to physically go to the console and turn it on manually before streaming will connect. The appropriate
ports are open on my router.

I have searched the internet about the above and can see others are having the same problems but I have been unable to find a solution.

However, if the Xbox One is already on, I can connect and utilize game streaming from Windows 10. On the same network, I can successfully turn on the Xbox One from the SmartGlass app on my iPhone and then connect to the Xbox One for game streaming from Windows
10. Any ideas for how to get the Xbox One to turn on directly from Windows 10 without having to use the SmartGlass app?

Sorry to hear you're having some issues with your console. I'm taking a guess and thinking maybe the power and updates could be related. So to address possibly both questions at the same time, what color is your power supply when you turn off the console?
If it's orange, then your Xbox is being shut down completely, and is not using instant on. If the power supply is white, then your Xbox is in standby but something else is going on. Try going to settings, all settings, then power, and changing to energy saving
mode. After that's set reboot your console. After the console is off turn it back on, go to settings, all settings, power, instant on. Under here, make sure that "Automatically download updates and purchases" is enabled, and if you have an external hard drive
make sure "When Xbox is off, turn storage off" is not enabled.

Hope this helps. Post back and let us know the color of the power supply, and if it does or does not work.

Thank you for replying to my question.

I can confirm that the light on the power brick is white.

I did exactly what you said by changing to energy saving mode, fully turned off the console, started the console and then set the power mode back to instant on. I am still unable to turn on the console from my windows 10 tablet within the windows app.

I can confirm that "Automatically download updates and purchases" is enabled and I have selected "When Xbox is off, turn storage off" is not enabled as I have an external hard drive plugged in. For reference I have also unplugged the hard drive but this
does not make a difference.

When I press the 'Turn on' button within the windows app the app tries to turn the Xbox One on but fails. The following error message appears:

"We were unable to turn on your console. Make sure this device is on the same network as your console and your console is set to instant-on".

The Xbox is hardwired to my network and my windows tablet is on wireless 5ghz on the same network so it is definitely not this. As already stated streaming works perfectly well when the xbox is already turned on before I connect through the windows app.

I did a bit of digging on this, and it appears it may be a bug Microsoft is working on. Please see this thread with a post to the bug. I would suggest following that thread for updates. Some users reported that a factory reset resolved their issues with
this. I cannot confirm that this will work, but it may be worth a shot if you don't want to wait for a fix. Click here for the steps on resetting the console.
Provided you keep your Xbox connected to the internet, your profile and games saves should be backed up. If you have games saved to an external hard drive, then they will probably be there after the reset, however you may need to reinstall some or all games.

Thanks for your help I will have a look through that thread tonight and try resetting the console if I have to (But obviously don't want to!).

In particular the console not updating games in the background has always annoyed me since day one so hopefully this can get sorted.

As per Shatset on the other thread it was the settings on my Asus router settings that was the problem:

Please login into your router's interface (usually 192.168.1.1)

Go to Network Tools (bottom left)

Click on the 'Wake on LAN' tab

Select Xbox-SystemOS from the drop down menu (Or whatever name has been given to the system)

Click '+' (add)

SAVE

It took me a couple attempts of pressing 'Turn On' in the Xbox app before it booted up but it definitely worked!

As far as I can see my first problem about the xbox not updating games in the background is definitely a different issue to this though so if anyone can help with this it would be appreciated.
