    Unable to verify my age in order to authorise my child's account.


    As the title says.



    For some reason, my son's account has stopped him from signing in.

    It asks for his parent to sign in (myself). I do sign in and it asks me to verify my age.

    I get through to the part where it tells me about federal laws and that it wants to bill me 50 cents (which is odd, as I live in the UK) and then it fails.



    BOTH our accounts are in the right region (United Kingdom).

    BOTH our birth dates are correct.

    All other information is correct, such as billing information, card details etc



    I have no idea why it's happening or why it's quoting federal laws to me when I'm not even in the United States.

    This seems to have happened since the last xbox system update.



    I don't know what to do.

    Okay, that makes sense, but as I said, region settings are correct.

    Payment details are correct (xbox live + game pass auto renew with no problems).

    However, when it tells me it's going to take the 50 cents, it sits there for a second or two, then just gives me a button saying "Try again".

    If I try to do the same process via the ms account website, it just says

    Something's not working

    We tried, but something's not working at the moment

    It gives me a trace ID too.

    This has been happening for a couple of days now, so if something was broken, I think it'd be fixed by now.

    I have no idea what I'm supposed to do from here, other than maybe alter my son's age to be an adult, but that's not exactly ideal.

    you have to remember ms is in the USA and has to follow coppa

    The 50 cent charge is verification that you are the parent and that you understand that you are following the rules of parental responsibly for your child's online access

    Support is correct. It's not possible to change the age of an account once it has been created and change an adult account to a child account. In order to be able to use restrictions for him, you would have to create a brand new, child account for him and
    your account would be the parent account. Nothing can be transferred between accounts so he would have to start over.
    Are you sure you can't change the age of an account? I just went into my account on live.com, and went under personal info. I changed my age to the age of my child. When I hit "save", it prompted me that I first had to revoke consent for my child accounts.
    I didn't continue, but it appears that if I do revoke consent, then I will have successfully changed my age. Then I'd have my account with a child's age, and I could create a new account and make my old account a child of the new account...
