Unable to use gift card with my Son's account

We have been on X-box live for several years now. WE had a family subscription that got "updated" to individual accounts awhile back. With the family subscription I could redeem gift cards on my Son's account with purchasing blocked then un-block his purchasing
to approve a purchase. This let him see his own gift card balance and get started with managing money a little bit. - he could save up small cards he was given towards a more expensive purchase.

It has been quite a while since we allowed a purchase form his account. This weekend I added a $15 gift cared to it which took his balance over $30 and then I tried to buy a game for him but I cannot find our to enable his account for purchases again.

Forum posts I have read seem to indicate that the only way to do this now is to try to promote his account to an adult account. He is 10 this is not going to happen.

Do I have any other options to access this money or have I just opened an interest free savings account for him that he can't touch until he turns 18?

With all of the multi-factor security, email codes and whatnot it seems pretty silly that we cannot move funds from a child account that we created to an adult account that we created in order to give you the money by way of spending it.

Prepaid Code - Different regions

When you purchase an Xbox gift card, make sure that the currency you use matches the currency associated with the recipient’s billing account. Otherwise, the recipient will be unable to redeem the gift card.

If you redeem an Xbox gift card in a country that doesn’t match the country associated with your billing account, you won’t be able to use those funds.

The funds in your Microsoft account can’t be transferred after you redeem your Xbox gift card.

You can’t use funds in your Microsoft account to purchase physical goods from online stores.

Transfering credit by one means or another from one family member to another

Hi

PROBLEM!

I have put credit onto my account rather than my son's in error ((his birthday gifts - he is not thrilled!!)

I need to get the £40 credit from my account (parent) to my son (family member) who desperatly wants to buy some V Bucks.

now the option to use my balance to add funds to his account is greyed out so thats a no go.

I've heard i can buy a gift card with my balance and then give it to my son but the option to use my balance as payment is also greyed out when doing this and leaving me with using paypal and credit cards.

How on earth can I get this money to him?

if it makes any difference £30 of it was put in using a debit card and £10 was an xbox gift card

I dont play or use my account at all other than to keep an eye on my 10 year old!

Please Help!

Sorry to hear it. You would not be able to promote your son's account even if you wanted to. He needs to be 18 to do that.

I have a VBUCKS gift card I bought my son and I am unable to redeem it online. This is very frustrating.

I accidentally redeemed xbox gift card to my microsoft account instead of my son’s. I dont have an xbox account but need to transfer the funds to my son’s account. I read that transfer isn’t possible. Is there any way?

No there isnt any way. Nothing is transferable between accounts. What you can do however is use the balance on your account to gift a game of your sons choosing to their own account by selecting "buy as gift" when purchasing whatever game they want.
