Unable to sign in to Xbox Social from the Xbox Game Bar (Windows 10)

Hello there,

I've scoured the internet and I can't seem to find a correct solution to this.

When I click "sign in" on the Xbox Social widget on the Xbox game bar, nothing happens at all other than a little blip on the widget. I haven't found anything out there that refers specifically to this problem and I'm not sure what to do to fix it.

This doesn't really impede me from playing games, but I'd like to be able to join Xbox party chat when I'm playing with others cross-platform.

Thank you for coming to the forums. I'd be happy to try and help.

Does it not allow you to drag it from the top banner of the game bar? Pressing the Windows Key + G will bring up the Game Bar so believe pressing it again should hide the game bar.

Hello there,

This issue has actually persisted for at least a year, if not since when I first assembled the PC a few years ago.

So far, I have tried both repairing and resetting the Xbox game bar app with no success.

When this issue started to happen? I ask because yesterday Xbox had a major server issue which affected everything from buying/downloading games and DLCs, games asking to be purchased again, payments being refused.

Their servers are not back to normal yet and lots of users are complaining they're still having issues. So if your issue started since yesterday, would you please wait a few hours to see if things get back to normal again?

Did you set your permissions on your Xbox account to be able to do it?

To change your Xbox account privacy settings, sign in to the privacy & online safety page:

Set all the settings to "Allow" or "Everyone" on the three tabs:

Privacy;

Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One & Windows 10 Online Security;

Xbox 360 Online Security;

Note: If you’re on a child account, you’ll need an adult in your family to sign in to their Microsoft account to change your privacy settings. This is done through the Family settings.

After changing your privacy settings, try to login to Xbox Social again. If it still doesn't work, please try to do this:

- Completely uninstall Xbox App, Xbox Companion App and Xbox Game Bar (if you have all of them).

- Go to Start > Type PowerShell > Right click it and select “Run As Administrator” > Type the following command and press Enter (you can run one at a time):

Get-AppxPackage Xbox | Remove-AppxPackage

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.GamingServices | Remove-AppxPackage –allusers

- Press Windows + R and type in "regedit". Press enter.

- Search for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services

- Delete "GamingServices" and "GamingServices.net" (if they're still there).

- Click on Start > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials. Search for Xbl|DeviceKey, click on it and then Remove.

- Delete Accounts and Cache folders at:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker

- Also delete Microsoft Store local cache files at:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe

- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Microsoft Store > Advanced Options > Reset.

- Go to Start > Settings > Gaming > Xbox Networking > Fix it.

- Go to Start > Settings > Gaming > Game Mode > Set if OFF.

- Press the Windows Key + R. Type WSReset.exe and press Enter.

- Restart Windows.

- If you're using a proxy, please stop using it for now:

- Press Windows Key + R. Type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings. Uncheck the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box. Click Ok.

- Please check if Date and Time is set correct. Uncheck "Set the time automatically", do it manually.

- Open Microsoft Store and make sure you are logged in with the correct account.

- Finally, install Xbox App and Xbox Game Bar (Xbox Companion App too if you had it) again. Open them and login to the correct Microsoft/Xbox account.

See if you can login and use the Game Bar and Xbox Social normally.
