Unable to sign-in for new PC Game Pass games (0x80004005)

When I attempt to start game pass games on my Windows 11 PC I get an "Unable to sign in to Xbox Live" error message. It sometimes gives the error code 0x80004005.

This only happens with new games I download but haven't previously played. Ones that are already installed and previously signed into start fine and use my correct account.

There are no problems with my Microsoft account that I can see, and it signs in fine on the website, the store and the Xbox app.

For anyone having a similar problem, I did manage to fix it but not in a particularly elegant way.

I ended up creating a Windows 11 installation media USB stick, and using that to reinstall Windows 11 Pro while retaining data and settings. This allowed me to sign in as my Microsoft account successfully again in Windows and every app, and allowed the games to sign in as well.

Having the same issue. Attempting to install games with the new Xbox Game Pass for PC (notably Metro Exodus and Wolfenstein II) will result in an error (0x80070780). I have no idea what to do. It's very frustrating
as I only signed up for game pass to play Metro, and I am currently unable to do so.

Hello, I am having this very same issue with Starfield on the xbox PC app as a gamepass game, though I am not having this issue with my other games from this such as Forza Horizon 5.

This is very frustrating as I had just been playing the game the day prior and now I am unable to sign in for this game alone.

I have tried everything on this list and much more, but nothing is changing the fact that this game is giving me this error code "0x80004005"

So I just tried making a new account on my windows PC and I am actually able to load the game and sign in to my xbox live account but when I switch back to my main windows account, i get the error 0x80004005.

Do you have any ideas?

I am on a PC, using game pass. Everything that Mohammed covered was covered by Microsoft support last Friday and the extent of the troubleshooting. The only addition was that I tried other games and found out that they work. This makes it specific to Skyrim, when I start a new game on Skyrim, I get a pop up window asking me to log in again and when I do, I get the error 0x80004005.
