If you don’t have access to the email address or phone number that you used to sign up for your account, you can try to add an alternate email address or phone number as an alias.



An alias is another email address or phone number that works with the same Microsoft account. You can use any of your aliases to sign in to your account, and you can choose which alias to use to send and receive emails. You can also use an alias to reset your password or verify your identity.

To add an alternate email address or phone number as an alias, you can follow these steps:

• Go to Add an alias.
  
• Sign in to your Microsoft account, if prompted.
  
• Under Add an alias, do one of the following:
  
  • Create a new Outlook.com email address and add it as an alias.
    
  • Add an existing email address as an alias.
    
• Select Add alias.
  

After adding an alias, you should receive a verification email or text message to confirm that you own the new alias. Follow the instructions in the verification message to complete the process.

Once you have verified your new alias, you can use it to sign in to your Microsoft account and verify your identity. You can also remove any old aliases that you no longer use or have access to.

If you had 2FA enabled on the account and you changed phone number without updating the account then you can't use the recovery form due to 2FA and support cannot access the account without the code sent to your old number as they are unable to access that account and are not allowed by law.

The account holder has a responsibility to update their information on the account when it changes.

My friend was unable to create parties after signing into my account on his Xbox. Im having some troubles changing my privacy settings as I no longer have access to an old phone number (A code has been sent to the old number because I cant just 'access important
information'

Since it takes a month for the phone number change process, would customer service be able to change my settings for me or do I have to wait?
