Unable To Remove A Follower On XBOX One

I am having the same problem so many others have reported on various websites and forums such as this one. I have a random person that has followed me and I cannot remove them. I could have swore that I have been able to remove a follower in the past,
so I am confused why it no longer works. I messaged that person hoping they would be a good sport and "unfollow" me. Yeah, that went about as well as you'd expect. I have scoured the internet and only found the same complaints by others. There seems to
be no concrete way to remove a follower. Blocking and unblocking does not work.

Has anyone who has had this problem recently been lucky with support here? Has anyone been successful in removing a follower that was previously not removable?

I contacted XBOX Support via telephone three times hoping there was something on their end that the IT department could do. I thought surely they could go into my list and edit it behind the scenes. Zero luck. I was rudely treated and told that there
is nothing I can do besides use the XBOX feedback system and hope that the feature is added in a future update. We all know that is not going to happen. People have been complaining about this since the X1 launched.

This "Follower" system is convoluted and absurd. How there is no option to remove followers or turn off this feature altogether is baffling to me.

In my opinion, this is a huge oversight. How do you institute a feature that so many dislike, and not provide an option to block or turn it off. This is not Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. And even if those were the models Microsoft was going for, they
at least give you the option to block or deny followers. I do not want random people following me. I have a very specific set of friends and have no need for random people following me, contacting me, inviting me to play, jumping into chat, etc. While blocking
certain people alleviates some of those issues, there HAS to be a way to remove people from following me and showing up on my list. The Friend List feature from the XBOX 360 worked perfectly fine and did not need to be so drastically changed.

A spam account, does this account have activity?. or 0G and no games played?. this is one weird situation, normally blocking the follower removes them. it could be just a bug/glitch. are you a preview program member using the NXOE?.

Unable To Remove A Follower

I have been directed to post here while speaking with a rep from Xbox Support chat.

I am unable to remove a follower. I have tried blocking them, friending them and removing them, and blocking them again. I have attempted to do this on Smart Glass, Xbox.com, and on my console. I even went as far as asking the person to stop following me,
to which I haven't received any communication back. This person remains on my followers list with no way of removing them.

I've addressed this with Xbox Support chat over 3 times now in a week. I have done all the regular troubleshooting steps Xbox Support has walked me through and yet I have a random unwanted gamertag (that is a spam account) that is currently showing as a
follower on my account, despite blocking and unblocking the gamertag multiple times.

In the past, I've been able to block and unblock other random gamertags that message/follow me unrelated to the games I play and they are removed as a follower immediately. Between Xbox Support and all these forum posts I've been reading about these follower
issues, there doesn't appear to be a simple solution. No one is really giving an answer as to how to fix it or why it's happening.

I can provide specific details on everything that has happened so far with my issue here, from the time it started last week up until now with this post, in a PM if need be. The Xbox Support rep who suggested I make this post has advised that posting about
my issue here will allow Ambassadors to check my post and possibly refer me directly to one of the Enforcement Specialists or the Ambassador may address this issue for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

No, I am not actively participating in the Preview Program. I joined for a very short stint a few months back, but backed out. So basically I was accepted, participated, have the app on my console, but un-enrolled and no longer receive the updates.

Has there been any information indicating participating in the preview program may have caused it? Any word on a resolution to this very irritating issue?

 

That may be your issue, if you are still running the preview program OS, that could explain why you are experiencing the glitch, especially since you are no longer receiving updates.

 

I don't see how that could be the issue. I am not running anything for the preview program. The marketplace app is simply on my console. I am no longer in the preview program and do not receive the updates. My console is no longer registered.

I simply have the app on my HDD along with all the other apps I've downloaded. There is no OS to run as I do not use the app and have not registered my console again. I simply keep the app in case I ever want to join again.

Also, I have the new XBOX One dash update that was rolled out last week which is the most current one.

Not everyone is facing this issue you're having this is what I do not get. is there a reason behind blocking/ removing these "followers" that have added you?.

 

I realize not everyone has this issue, but there are enough that do that Microsoft should really be looking into this. Message boards of various sites are littered with people complaining and asking for the same thing. The option needs to be given to remove
followers or give users the choice to avoid followers altogether by turning it off in the settings.

The reason I mentioned blocking and unblocking is because other users elsewhere had tried this method in hopes of successfully removing a follower from their list. At this point nothing has worked. I listed it because it is one of MANY methods that has
been attempted. This was even suggested by the XBOX support agents who were absolutely no help on the telephone.

Bottom line is I want this follower removed and no future followers either. I came here with the fleeting hope that someone with support or another user may have found a way.

No, I do not have the ability to report a problem. Again, I do not participate in the preview program. My console is unregistered, I do not receive preview updates, and I do not use the app. I simply keep it on the HDD in case I ever wish to re-register
for participation in the program.

I am just like everyone else, standard user with standard updates. The current "new" Xbox experience update is what I'm running with everyone else.

 

I have reported the problem here, on the feedback service for Xbox One, and to the telephone support. That is the only way I am able to report this issue or seek resolution. Aside from tweeting Major Nelson, LOLOL, that is the extent of my reach.

 

I have the same problem. I have a follower, who was spamming and whom I reported for it. I blocked him/her and they're still a follower. The account has zero gamer score and is following over 200 players. It's obvious they spammed everyone they followed.

 

ive had the same problem and can't tell if the follower removed or not, The best thing you can do us keep them blocked and they shouldn't be able to follow you into any sessions. I would also suggest changing your online status to friends only. Hopefully
the system will be reviewed and changed.
