Unable to purchase gamepass ultimate

Hello, the issue is that I am trying to purchase the $1 gamepass ultimate subscription for the first time using my microsoft balance. I have more than $10 in my microsoft account currently but after choosing it as my payment option it asks how I'm going
to pay the rest. Do I need enough in my balance for the next month's subscription too or can't I pay without credit card?

Are you trying to purchase the current promotion for Xbox GamePass Ultimate?

If so, the current promotion is only for new members/subscribers to GamePass Ultimate. If you had GamePass Ultimate before you will not be able to purchase it.

Yes, since it starts a recurring subscription, you have to show you can pay for the next payment. So you either need enough funds in your account for the next payment or a credit card/Paypal on file as well.

You cannot pay without a credit card on file, you must put one on file and use that as you’re payment. After that you are able to take the card off file and use the microsoft account balance.

You can't remove a credit card while it's attached to an active subscription. So you can't remove it unless you cancel the subscription or wait until it ends.
