Unable to play on Realms (Minecraft Switch)

I have been getting the error message of "you cannot play online multiplayer because of how your Microsoft account it set up". I have an adult account that is not restricted in online play, I've tried for hours to change the settings, such as blocking
it and then unlocking it, but the settings never update. I am unsure of what to do at this point and contemplating making a new account because of this issue

Probably, there was a problem with Xbox Live services.

Have you an active Nintendo Switch Online Subscription? I ask this because I found the following Q/A on Minecraft Nintendo Switch FAQ:

Thanks for the reply. We understand this is on a switch, you still log in with Microsoft account. And with realms, the cross play needs to be enabled due to realms accesses all platforms Minecraft is played on.
