Unable to move my gamertag to a different Microsoft Account

I have been trying to move my gamertag over to a different Microsoft Account for going on 2 months with no luck, Every time that I attempt to make the transfer, I receive a generic error message saying that I cannot move the account at this time.

I have had multiple chat support sessions with no luck. The first support agent told me that I needed to wait 30 days (I have never moved my gamertag before). I did as told, and after 30 days still had the same issue. The 2nd chat support agent told me
that the issue was that I am trying to move my gamertag over to my email address that is my own domain which is hosted through domains.live.com. She advised that I needed to move my gamertag over to a different email address then it would free the domain
email address so I could move it over again. I didn't believe this, but gave it a try..... Unfortunately, I wasn't even able to move my gamertag to a different email address (I can't move it to any email address).

Earlier today, I had a phone support agent work with me. He verified that nothing looked wrong on his end. He advised that the issue was that my new email address I am trying to move my gamertag to has a hyphen in it so it wouldn't work. Funny, the other
email address I had tried doesn't have a hyphen or any special character. When he couldn't find a resolution, he advised that I would need to go to the forums as some of the people who monitor the forums actually have more tools than the phone agents have...................

So here I am, and in need of help.

My xbox live membership just renewed. If I knew this was going to be such a hassle, I would have cancelled. I need help from someone who can find answers on how to resolve the issue. I am not willing to have anymore run-around.

it is still possible to do, but would be a pain.

you would have to sign into the account with the email that you "want" to use for your account at
Sign in to your Microsoft account and then close it out, by clicking on security and password (you might get prompted to verify and email or phone number) then scrolling to the bottome and clicking close account, follow
those prompts. due to the email that you want to use is an outlook, which is Microsoft controlled, you will then need to close all that out and sign into your email. it takes 60 days to completely close the Microsoft account attached to that email. once it
has closed, you can then try to use it to do the swap.

NOTE: If you have purchased anything under the gamertag that is associated with the outlook Microsoft account, you will loose it. there is no way to merge accounts to keep that stuff.

 

Are you getting this message? "Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now."

Do you have any currency on your account? If so, one of the requirements I've found to move your gamertag to another Microsoft account is that you need to spend all your currency

 

Like VacantSouls mentions any currency on the account can cause an issue like this. Also as far as I know the region must match too.

Also be sure to check that security proofs etc are up to date and verified via this link for both accounts:
account.live.com/.../Manage

To be sure and since I didn't see you mention it, another restriction is that the profile must be on a console for at least 30 days without it being moved or downloaded

 

The $0.50 balance on my account was the problem. Too bad I didn't just come to the forum first for support rather than relying on the support agents and wasting a lot of time.
