Issue: Game fails to launch — silent crash

Description:

I’m experiencing a persistent issue where Assassin’s Creed Origins does not launch at all via the Xbox app on PC.

When I click "Play" in the Xbox app, the mouse cursor briefly loads, but nothing happens. No error messages or crash dialogs appear.

I’ve reinstalled the game, reinstalled the Xbox app, reset Gaming Services, and also reinstalled Ubisoft Connect.

I attempted to launch the game directly via the .exe file from the install directory — same result: no response.

I tried running in clean boot mode, with admin permissions, and using PowerShell to repair packages — no effect.

The issue persists even after changing install drives, and I’ve also verified that my Ubisoft and Xbox accounts are linked properly.

I have also updated my drivers to the latest versions but the issue still persists.

I understand that you are experiencing issues launching Assassin’s Creed Origins on PC.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please disable FXAA in NVIDIA Control Panel. To do this, open NVIDIA Control Panel > Go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select Assassin’s Creed Origins and disable FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing).

And then run the Game in Windowed mode by navigating to the ACO.ini file (usually found in Documents\Assassin’s Creed Origins).

Open it with Notepad and change:

Fullscreen=0

WindowMode=1

Save the file and restart your PC.

Next is to check Ubisoft connect settings. Open Ubisoft Connect > Go to Settings > Disable Overlay and Cloud Sync.

Then verify game files via Ubisoft connect. Do this by opening Ubisoft Connect > Go to Games > Select Assassin’s Creed Origins > Click Properties > Choose Verify Files.

After that is to run the game in compatibility mode. Right-click the game’s .exe file > Properties > Compatibility Enable Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.

Kindly check background processes. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and end unnecessary tasks that can interfere with the game

Hi Oal,

Thanks for the update. Just wanting to make sure, as usually that is the most common reason why someone is unable to access the game with that error. When you are trying to launch the game, are you going through the Xbox companion app? Also log into Xbox.com
on the PC and see if you see the game in your library.

Sorry you're still having trouble. If you are still unable to launch the game from the Beta App then please find the game in the Start Menu of the PC and launch it from there

Known Issue: Users unable to launch the game through the Xbox (Beta) app on PC.
Workaround: If you are looking to play on Windows 10, you'll need to launch the game by clicking on Windows icon (Start Menu) and then manually locate Halo: The Master Chief Collection in your list of installed apps or search for it
by clicking on the magnifying glass icon.

Those two screenshots show the exact same errors I get when trying to launch Atomic Heart as well (which I uninstalled because, unless this can be resolved, i'll be uninstalling and seeking refunds for all of the games I've purchased for PC through the XBox app if I continue to remain unable to play them).
