Unable to install GamePass games; purchased games DO install.

I am a "GamePass Ultimate" subscriber who is using Windows 10, latest updates installed. To be exact, my build is 21H1 (19043.1110).

The problem that I am facing is that gamepass licensed games fail to install, while purchased games can be installed.

This is clearly visible in the screenshot below:

The linked help page is of no use and either hints at a missing windows update or the default troubleshooting points, of which ALL of them have been checked by me: Troubleshoot game installations on a Windows 10 device | Xbox Support. To make it fully clear, ALL updates have been installed, including the MS Store and optional downloads.

The eventviewer is pointing out that something is going wrong with the Gaming Services.

Some can remedy the problem by removing the service using powershell:

Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers

And install it again via re-opening the Xbox app or by manual instalaltion via the MS Store. BOTH do not work for me.

- I also tried to repair and re-install the MS Store, XBOX app, Game Service and app installer (including flushing the MS Store installation cache). No result.

- I tried to logout/login again in both the Xbox app and as Windows login session

- I also tried to elevate Administrators rights for DCOM permission warnings that showed up: Fix Error 10016 in Windows Event Viewer (helpdeskgeek.com)

- I checked the default drive installation target in MS Store and Xbox app settings. No drive is flagged as incompatible. I tried all drives as target, none work.

- I even re-installed a completly fresh installation of windows, same result!

Nothing works. I am now clueless and a bit frustrated. I welcome any suggestions not yet mentioned above!

The problem with the Powershell feature is that it cannot find the service argument and folder to repair, uninstall or reinstall.

Have you tried this simple solution option?

log out the account in the xbox app, and close it

Access system settings. To do this, open the Start menu and click on the gear icon, on the left side;

In the Windows 10 settings window, click on "Apps";

Now, under "Applications & Features", locate the Xbox app, game service, app installer and click once on it. Then click on "Advanced Options";

Click on "Repair" and when you are finished with "Restore" and finally click on "Restore" again to confirm the action.

Today, i set up game share with a friend. I logged out of his account and logged back into mine so i could install a game. When i tried to install any game it said that had to connect to xbox live. How do i fix this? Internet was connected and i
already have xbox gamepass on my account.

You dont you MUST INSTALL from his profile

Any non gamepass games

For gamepass games why are you using his gamepass when you are using yours

Game share doesnt allow you to have a free license

Only the profile that owns the games can download it

Only gamepass or games with gold games be shared via the gold share

But any regularly purchased games must be installed from the purchasing profile

Any profile on home console can use the games but not install them

When attempting to use this tool nothing really happened, I ran the in place upgrade tool and it just said "Thank you for updating to the latest version of Windows 10" without doing anything. The problem with installing GamePass games persists and I am still unable to install KB5004476

EDIT: I realized I accidentally used the "Update Now" instead of "Download Tool Now", I used the latter and did that install, no change, still can't install GamePass games, KB5004476 is not in the update menu, the standalone installer still won't work.

When your gamepass expires, you won't be able to play gamepass games. It stays installed until you renew or purchase the game
