Unable to go online with my account

I have been using my account and as far as I knew it hasnt had a gold subscription for a while. However, I have been using it to watch twitch streams late at night. This morning when I tried to connect to the internet on my account I got a message saying:

Your membership is suspended until you update your payment information.

We'll charge your payment option and reactivate your membership after you update your account, but there may be some delay. To see your account info, visit
www.xbox.com/account.

Then it gives me the option to update my payment option or go completely offline meaning I cant watch twitch as a silver member... Any reason why something like this would be happening?

I can't update either and as a result can't play.

 

You would get a message like that if you have auto-renewal on and for some reason they have not been able to bill your account for gold. They usually attempt to bill you several times before suspending you which usually means you have accrued a balance which
must be paid before you can go gold again. You can check
http://commerce.microsoft.com to see if there is a balance or see what issue may be wrong with your payment method.

Also, you no longer need a gold subscription in order to access apps.

 

That makes no sense though. The last time I got gold I'm pretty sure was with a card. So one it makes no sense for them to keep trying to bill my payment method after my card subscription stops and also it makes no sense for me to have some kind of balance
I owe them with my account now locked.

Also I realize that. However my account is completely locked from accessing the internet at the moment so I cant even watch twitch. Its either I change my payment method or I go completely offline.
