Unable to download the free Games With Gold - "Can't download" the game

Hi,

I had bought the Xbox 360 S console in the USA in 2013. Now, I live in India and migrated my Xbox Live profile to India as well. I had also changed the console Locale to India.

I have taken a new subscription for the Xbox Live Gold on this October 2017. However, when I tried to download the free Game with Gold for October (Medal of Honor Airborne), the download proceeds to 80% and then shows a message "Can't download Medal of Honor
Airborne" and quits.

I have contacted Microsoft support via chat multiple times and performed the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Power recycles my console (Shut down console, remove all cables, wait for 2 minutes, reconnect and start up console).

2. Delete my profile and

3. Clean system cache 3 times

4. Reboot console and redownload my profile

Nothing works. I am still facing the same issue. If I purchase a game or add-on from the marketplace, however, I can still download them and they work fine.

Because this title (Medal of Honor Airborne) is a free game, it does not show up in my purchase history. This behaviour is the same as all my previous downloaded free Games with Gold. I still own the licenses of these titles and they show up in my console's
Download History. Moreover, in the Xbox 360 marketplace, these games Buy button shows up as "Already Purchased".

Contacting the Xbox Support multiple times still hasn't solved this issue.

I was able to download the free with gold game. Unable to download Borderlands 2 with MSP.

I am unable to download BF3 on games for gold although it allows me to download the new game on Xbox this week for free oxen free.

 

That's usually the sign of a region issue. You'll want to check
http://commerce.microsoft.com to make sure your account information is correct. Even if it is, try rendering your information and try migrating your account again if that doesn't work (even if it is correct) https://live.xbox.com/AccountMigration

Thank you for your answer.

I have rechecked my account information and they are correct. As per your suggestion, I have updated the information once again.

However, migrating an account only works once in three month. Since I have migrated my account on October 2017, I am at this time unable to pursue the second part of your suggestion.

I will try downloading the game once again tonight. I will update this thread with the result within 24 hours from now.

 

If you just recently migrated your region, keep in mind that it can take a full 30 days to completely update everything. That may be the reason you're having issues.

 

Update: The download failed again last night!

As per your suggestion, I will wait for full 30 days and try to download the game again in late November/early December. Hopefully, my issue will be solved by then.

Just a question, is this a common issue?

 

I wouldn't say common, necessarily. It's usually just an issue for people who moved and didn't know to migrate their region, or set their region to a different region to try to get something that wouldn't normally be available to them.

 

Well, I was aware of the policy of migrating the account and setting Locale to the region I'm moving. I had done those steps first, and then tried to download the free Games with Gold title. Right now, I have no other step to follow except waiting till end
of the month and hope for the best.

I thought the Games with Gold titles are not region locked. The Games with Gold titles I downloaded back in the USA still works. I am really surprised I am facing this region issue with Games with Gold titles. Was this not a user story Microsoft QA approved?

 

Unfortunately with 360 games there are going to be some games with gold games that are region locked. One games shouldn't be.

 

Update: It has been one month since I first migrated my account and tried downloading the game, so I tried again today. Same issue.

However, Game with Gold for December month "Child of Eden" has been successfully downloaded in my console. I can play that game, no problem.

Any other idea I can try?
