Unable to Download a Free game via xbox.com (You have no valid payment options on file.)

I get this when trying to download Warface, which is a free game..

Is there a fix for this?

The game is free, why would i need a card or paypal linked? There is enough money on my Microsoft account to cover 'Free'.

Hi,

Gold X360 backward compatible games will always show you a Buy This Game.

But, that's no problem, click on Buy This Game and you will see Free if your Gold Subscription is valid. You will also need a valid payment associated to your account.

Excerpt from the FAQ

"When I try to download a game from Xbox.com I get a message that says "You have no valid payment options on file." Will I be charged for the free Games with Gold?

You won’t be charged for the Games with Gold download. The Xbox.com Store requires a valid payment option to download Xbox 360 games. However, no charges will be made since Games with Gold is free to Xbox Live Gold members."

This only affects xbox.com marketplace. You are best off buying from your console, so you don't have any other issues in the future.

 

I've been able to download via xbox.com for several years, since the card i used to have linked expired.

When are Mircosoft planning on fixing the problem with the website?

 

There's no word on if/when the website will be fixed. It's been an issue since they switched from points to currency. Since the website has not been updated to work with the currency system yet, it requires that you have a payment method on file to make
any purchases, even free ones.

The site is updated now to use currency to purchase on the site. However, for free content, you would need a card or paypal linked with your account to start the download.

 

Still not working... I added a credit card and it still doesn't see it. Endless loop... FOR A FREE GAME!

 

Mister Fizzle where can I see my currency when I am trying to buy something? I only see the credit card option! Also, will it ever be possible to buy free games without the need of a credit card?

 

I'm getting this annoying error as well.
