Unable to connect external drive for screen and capture

Hello, I have been trying to set up my Xbox One so that it captures game play on an external drive. I first purchased a 2TB USB 3.1 pen drive. After formatting as NTFS, I had the error "Storage must be USB 3.0 or faster" I don't know why this would happen
when using a USB 3.1 drive, but maybe it was just a non compatible USB drive. So, after a few weeks of frustrating trouble shooting I just gave up altogether and then purchased an external Seagate USB 3.0 hard drive. I have formatted this drive on a pc as
Microsoft NTFS format with a 200mb EFI system partition and also without an EFI partition, as well as MBR and GPT initialization. However, when assigning the storage drive as a capture location I got the message "First format this drive on your PC " or “use
for media, or for game & apps” screen pops up. When cancelling this option, the disk is no longer accessible. I am now at my wits end with what I thought to be an easy process! Please can anyone help me understand what is going wrong?

    :)

I have exactly the same issue - the disk is formatted correctly as NTFS and is recognised as such on a windows 10 PC and on the disk is recognised on the Xbox and I selected "Media" when prompted. I can see the drive under the storage section listed as "EFI" and can read any media files that have been written to the file by a PC but when i try and set it as the game capture device the Xbox says it must be formatted as NTFS and will not set it as the game capture device. I think this is a bug in the operating system.

I worked it out - you need to use a partitioning tool (Not the windows disk manager) to remove the EFI partition and optionally merge the space it used with the main partition. Then you can set it as the capture device from the storage menu and successfully save clips there.

Unable to connect external drive for screen and capture

There are many USB dlash drives that are extremely slow. What is the make and model?

Pictures and videos captured on my console are regularly erased

There is only a finite space on the console internal drive to store captures.

To my understanding, if you make a lot of game clips and screenshots that space is quickly used up and any subsequent captures will overwrite the oldest file on the drive if its full. This space is a reserved area in the system area and not the entire drive space.

If you upload your captures to the Xbox Network and/or OneDrive you can safely delete the captures on the internal drive using Manage captures on xbox console.

The alternative is to connect a external drive, formatted to NTFS, and change your capture location to the external drive. Be aware that this option doesn't allow sharing on the Xbox Network.

    Clips and Pictures being deleted

Clips take up a lot more of your internal drive space than screenshots.

Try deleting some captures off of your consoles Internal drive after you upload them to the cloud.

You could also connect an external drive, formatted as the capture location for all your captures.

I think you only have limited space on the internal drive for captures, clips, screenshots etc. and once the limit is reached older captures are overwritten by newer ones.

    Missing captures

You didn't mention if they are missing from the console internal drive or the Xbox network.
