Unable to change username in Minecraft: Java Edition

Hi,

I recently got XBOX Game Pass for PC and I really enjoy it.

I was able to play a bunch of games that were free.

And one of those free games was Minecraft, so I decided to install the Launcher and play Minecraft with my friends.

However, there is a small problem, I made my name "zumorito98" and I didn't like it. So I wanted to change the name.

I went to the Minecraft website and I logged in and it doesn't recognise the fact I have Minecraft: Java Edition via Game Pass

So it tells me to pay for the game

Any help would be perfect.

Are you referring to your Minecraft: Java Edition in-game username? if you are here's how to change it.

To change your Minecraft username, you'll need to sign in at https://www.minecraft.net/profile then click on "My games" > Minecraft Java Edition > Profile Name. This Minecraft support page explains in good detail how to change your in-game username, as well as the requirements for it:

We have to buy the game in order to change the nickname. With the subscription we don't have the game license, we can only play while the subscription is active and the game is in the catalog.

Is this for Java Edition?

Did you tried opening Minecraft profile page on incognito mode?

Once there Navigate to My Games and select the Minecraft: Java Edition dropdown box and there you should be able to change your username

If you're not able to see the option to change Java Edition Minecraft username you may need to contact Mojang support for this one

If you're referring to Bedrock edition, changing gamertag do the trick, but sometimes can take up to 72 hours to be reflected the change everywhere

Recently, Microsoft started to integrate Minecraft Java accounts with Microsoft accounts. Could you have merged the wrong account at some point or signed in with the wrong account?
