Unable to change my Gamertag

I recently tried to change my gamertag and checked if nobody uses it and I found nobody but then it always gives me the message that I cant use this gamertag and I dont know why ?! - I asked the support why this could be and they said that it could be
a blocked gamertag.

So today I attempted to change my gamertag to xElite. This website suggests that said gamertag doesn't exist, (and I'm told the gamertag doesn't exist when I attempt to message it), however it says it's unable to change it as the gamertag I'm trying to
change it to already exists. So does the gamertag exist or does it not?

Also, when does an inactive account get deleted? Some inactive account is holding the gamertag I'd
really like to switch to. And sorry if this is the wrong forum.

You can't have xElite because x Elite exists.

LIVE doesn't see spaces or case changes and so for example xElite, x Elite and XeLiTe would all be seen as the same thing by the service.

There is no set time frame for a gamertag to be released. Microsoft did announce a big release of inactive tags a while back but gamertag sellers pounced on them straight away once they were freed. So now it is just a matter of waiting.

Plus remember that the 'gamertag' system is used on other Microsoft services. So just because it isn't being used on Xbox LIVE does not mean the account is not being used.

 

If the system says the gamertag is in use, then it is in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The gamertag system is used on other services, not just Xbox. Also, the system does not see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So if you're looking
one up as "gamertag" it may not show anything, but it could still be in use as "gamer tag".

 

You must have 800 microsoft point to change your gamertag.

 

Xbox live doesn't use microsoft points anymore.
