Unable to change my DNS.

I recently contacted Rockstar games to try and get my connectivity to GTA5 to work, because for some reason I am unable to connect to other players online and it's only this game. When I contacted them they told me to try and change my DNS to Pirmary DNS
8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS 8.8.4.4.

However, every time I try to change the DNS I enter in all the information and then once complete, it never changed. It stays exactly what it was before. What can I do to get this fixed? I have looked it up a little bit and people said that it was a bug
that xbox has but that was clear back in December of 2013, they even said that an update for that would be coming out. So is the bug still around? If so then Jesus Christ.

Xbox One Downloading Games Much Slower Than Network Speed

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses, managed to fix it.

My router had assigned my Xbox One a IPv6 primary DNS even though the router itself had IPv6 connections disabled. I was unable to change the DNS setting on the console as it kept reverting to the IPv6 DNS so had to go into my router using TelNet and make
a few changes using that to redisable the IPv6.

Xbox One now has the IPv4 DNS servers and is now working much quicker.

how to speed up your download speed on your xbox one

I thought this would be gone by now.

1. Changing your DNS can improve your download speed but it is not simply because you changed DNS. What happens is if your ISP DNS is bad it can resolve you to node that is not well suited for what you are trying to do. If your ISP DNS is not good this can improve your download speeds.
2. As it is more likely you hit the Xbox live download cap vs Dns issues. Depending on load the Xbox live server can limit your download speed.
3. As Indie stated there is a chance that you had ERA's(exclusive resource apps) running and that will limit your download speed.
4. Changing your DNS to google or Open DNS opens you up to information collection by google for selling to ad companies. At 1 point Cloud fare was offering free dns with a privacy policy.Click to expand...

ok, so by changing my DNS settings on the Xbox, does it only change them on the Xbox device or on my router itself?

tbh thats rockstars solution to everything, its never their fault even though there are pages and pages of forum posts complaining about their online gameplay

hi Hydro skillet

2 moths ago was not there.so my router dns gateway 192.168.1.1 as my dns.

I try to change it to google dns it will not change with no error .

when i use another router my dns gateway 192.168.1.1 as my dns.

The ISP dns info in my router is ipv4.

why that ipv6 dns appear in my XB1 dns.

I hope its not somthing bad and why i can not change it.

The way i fixed this problem is login to your router and change the dns IP. I use a strict dns so therefore by changing my dns to default i was able to log in. changed my dns back and can still log in
