Unable to change Gamertag!

Greetings all, I have an issue when trying to change my gamertag to a specific name. I've been experiencing this same problem for quite awhile now, meeting no resolution. I was hoping someone may be able to help!

So, there's this gamertag that I've been striving to get, but for some unconventional reason, it displays an error. I know for a fact it hasn't been taken considering when searched from a console, it states that no such gamertag exists. Please, if you are
able, I would appreciate the assistance! Thanks!

Unable to change gamertag

I created my account 7 years ago online, but didn't have an Xbox 360 at the time, and wasn't aware that you could change your gamertag for free for the first time. I just now learned that there is an expiration date for the first free gamertag change, and
now I have to pay to change it. I contacted customer support, and was told to make a post here to see if a moderator could do anything for me.

Unable to change gamertag

Hi all,

I would like to change my gamertag, but I am not able to pay, because I don't have a creditcard. Unfortunately, this is the only available payment method, but not one that is common where I am from.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix this (except getting a creditcard)?

If the system says the gamertag is taken, then it is in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The tag system is in use on other Microsoft services as well so it may not be in use on an Xbox. Also, the system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag
unique. So while you may lookup "gamertag" it will say it's not in use even if though it may be in use as "gamer tag".

Hmm... very well! However, never at any point has it said along the lines of, "this tag is taken." But I'm willing to go by what you just said. Thanks anyways!

Unfortunately no, the changing of the gamertag is universal for Xbox games to the profile. If you're unable to change the gamertag due to a time restriction then you'll be unable to have a different display in the games you play.

Have the same prob.

I created for MCC an account; created the gamertag as shown here "" it said that the gamertag is available - but after that, I got a different one.

Since then, I'm unable to change the gamertag on the homepage.

If I try to change the gamertag on the XBox Live homepage - there occurs an error and I'm unable to change it.

It says, that I should try it later - i try it now since 3 days.

You are entitled to a free change if the gamertag you are using is one of the generated/suggested gamertags that they make for you.

If you made your own gamertag, then unfortunately you are unable to change it for free.
