Unable to change gamertag back to a previous one

I'm not sure why, but I am not able to change my gamertag back to one I had around 2011. It says it is unavailable, but when searching that gamertag nothing comes up. This doesn't make any sense. If no one else currently has the account why can't I change
to it?

Unable to change location on my bio.

I am unable to change the location on my bio, everytime i try it says something like unable to change at this time, and this has been going on for around a month now for me, or whenever it does change it later goes back to the previous one on its own, or
for example I change it on my Xbox it won't change on Xbox app then later the one on Xbox will change the previous one, I'm really stuck here and I'm kinda hoping to change my location in bio, anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this was not super clear, I explained
the best I could.

Changing and removing gamertag.

Hey Der, I'm afraid that a Gamertag cannot be deleted entirely. You could change the login information that you're using now to be associated with your previous Gamertag (please let me know if you'd like more info on this process), but you will be unable
to associate your current Gamerscore, game saves, etc. with that previous GT.

Keep in mind that the system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So if someone else has it, but maybe spaced differently that you had it, it may not show when you search for it but is still in use.

The gamertag in question is . It is 12 characters long leaving only 3 more characters that could be spaces. I have searched multiple variations and still could not find a profile.

It really is irrelevant if the system says the gamer tag is unavailable then you won't be able to use it until the system once again makes it available. You will need to keep checking or simply decide on a different tag. Good luck with choosing your new
tag.

Lol I have been checking for the past 5 years, and also even after the recent 1 million gamer tag release I thought for sure it would be available. There has to be some criteria(s) as to why it's still not available but I guess this is coded on the back
end. (Deep Sigh)

DHG AFTERIMAGE

On the console, saves are filed under gamertags and only the person with that gamertag can access the save file for playing a game. The saves did not get deleted as they should still be on your memory device under your previous gamertag's name. You can fix
the problem by changing your gamertag back to your previous one that is listed on the save file. sadly, since you changed your gamertag once, it will cost you 800 msp to change it back.
