Unable to buy backwards compatible 360 games through Xbox One or browser

I bought an XBOX One X yesterday and one of the main reasons is, that i want to play Red Dead Redemption 1 in 4K.

I live in germany and my XBOX is set to german language and location.

I have my paypal account linked as payment for purchases in germany.

When i try to buy the game through the browser on my pc, with my microsoft account logged in, it shows up

on the german marketplace site, with prices shown in €.

Once i click buy, the payment window opens up in english showing the price in $ and it says that i don't have a valid payment method.

The same happens, when i try to purchase the game directly on my XBOX one X.

Out of curiosity, i tried purchasing other backwards compatible 360 games this way and they all redirect me to the us marketplace and it is not

possible to purchase them.

I tried to link my paypal as payment method for purchases in US and tried to buy the game again.

This time it shows my paypal as valid payment method, but when i click buy, it says "the purchase could not be completed at this time"

After trying many times, i wanted to try another way to get the game.

I bought a code for the game at cdkeys.com that was supposedly "worldwide activation", but trying to redeem the code on my XBOX

gives me an error message, that i cannot redeem the code with my current language.

Changing the language and region of my XBOX to US did not help.

I realise i could get a physical version of this game, but i like to have my games digitally

This is the first time i own an Xbox and unfortunately i have to say, the experience was horrible so far.

Microsoft support won't take care of this kind of problem, so my only chance is that someone here can help me out.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi, if you have any Xbox 360 backward compatible game, run it, when your 360 emulation is working, press the 2 button around the big Xbox button on your pad, so you can open the dashboard of the 360, than navigate to settings and manage payment method in
this window, here you can insert payment method for 360 content, change region if you see US and not Germany, and so on...

In other words, you need to "fix your 360 version account".

This was a great hint, although it wasn't exactly as you described.

I had another 360 game (fable) that i could start and inside the dashboard there was no setting for billing or location.

However, what i did, and what ultimately resolved my issue was, i logged out of my account (from the 360 dashboard) and then downloaded my profile and logged into that.

After that, i was able to activate the code that i already bought, and i am now also able to pirchase games directly from the store.

Yes, I'm unable to connect to Xbox Live on the 360 through backwards compatibility.

....If it is backwards compatible you should be able to download it on pc. Here is the official website for all the backwards compatible games. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/backward-compatibility.

Xbox 360 games can only be downloaded on either a 360 or, if they are backwards compatible, on an Xbox One.

Xbox 360 game codes do not work on PC.

You can of course redeem codes for consoles using a PC web browser (or a browser on any device for that matter), but the game will only be downloadable on a compatible Xbox console.
