Unable to apply a mod to an xbox game using Xbox Insiders

Hi Sempie,

I also attempted to try out the VR mod for Firewatch on Xbox Game Pass for PC.
Even when I could change permissions (only possible via Windows Safe Mode), I could not get the mod working.
The .exe client maybe be heavily permission restricted which causes any changes that the installing mod applies to the client to not work properly.
I'll try again and get back to you.

I am using Raicuparta VR mod for Firewatch and was able to find a solution for myself. I hope this helps you too.

The issue that you are encountering seems to be permissions specific. Here is the solution that I found worked for me:

1. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Xbox > Advanced Options > Terminate, Repair, Reset. This prompted my Xbox app to update properly via Microsoft Store app.

2. Ensure you have a clean install of Firewatch and that you have launched the game at least once via the Xbox app.

3. Boot up Windows in Safe Mode (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234)

4. Within the Firewatch directory, perform whatever copy/write actions need to mod the Firewatch game files. It should complete successfully now without permissions issues.

5. Since I have a Quest 2, I connected my Quest via Oculus Link, loaded up SteamVR onto my PC & Quest, and then launched Firewatch from the Xbox App which appeared on my Quest 2.

Additionally, I encountered instances where "Can't open this app" error would appear as well. This was caused by dragging Firewatch.exe onto TwoForksVRInstaller.exe without proper permissions, resulting in unclean install that deletes Firewatch.exe. This required uninstalling and reinstalling Firewatch as "Verify & Repair" option would error out constantly.

Third party mods may not be applied to GamePass games, they are encrypted.

There are games like Fallout and Flight and Farming Simulator that have menus inside the game for authorized mods
