    This one threw me for a loop today. I spent the majority of the morning trying to get my console to show up in the consoles section of the Xbox app. I tried all the mobile devices in my house and tried all different builds of the Xbox Dashboard. It would go through the steps but hang on the ‘Press “Enable” on your console to get connected’ screen. I guess I found a bug in the app or architecture somewhere. I submitted a report on it and confirmed it affects all builds from production up through Alpha Skip Ahead. All platforms for the app from iOS to android.

    I found a work-around and just wanted to throw it out there in case someone else was getting frustrated trying to add their Xbox Series X to the Xbox app for remote features, like remote play, remote install and console management. Try unplugging your external HDDs before you try adding the console in the app and see if that gets your console added. Once you get it added you can plug your external HDDs back in and access all your games for remote play.

    Update: as of today, 9/30/21, this is still a problem on the current alpha-skip ahead build.

    Game.streaming.via.the xbox companion app requires a xbox

    Keep in mind you can't.use.the.xbox while you are.using.the wireless gamestreaming
    Huh? Remote Play is nothing to do with Xcloud or Game Pass. And if it won't work, then how can they get it working on their Android device? And they have an Xbox so that's not the issue.

    They are trying to Remote Play their Series X games from their Series X console to their PC via the Remote Play feature and using the Xbox App. This should work without an issue, as it does with their Android device. There is nothing on the Remote Play page to suggest Game Pass is needed

    I have switched to an Xbox series X from an Xbox one S. we used an external sea gate hard drive to store games. The series x can see the hard drive but not all of the games stored on it

    I’ve just been told that the series X will not work with any other external HDD unless it is an expansion card?!

    I know the Xbox is working with this seagate HDD as I can run what games I can see ok? Help needed please

    You can still use external HDD for your Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One games but you can't play Series X/S games from them,

    Series X/S games can only be played from the internal or external storage card,

    with game file size's getting bigger, that 1Tb internal NVMe SSD is going fill up quick.

    Firstly, I am unable to check if this happens on the Xbox app, as I do not have a modern smartphone somehow.

    I have an external USB drive to store gameplay recordings, but that's it.

    All of the time, my Xbox says everything to do with network is in check.

    Yes, I've set it to sleep. I often use the console for remote playing.

    Just an additional note: I don't use the official Xbox app when I do remote play, since it fails to connect most of the time, and when it does, it does a resolution higher than needed with lots of input lag. I use an app called "Xbplay". This shouldn't impact any remote features, but it does use remote features. This may or may not be a factor of the issue.
