    UK - ISPs

    Evening all,

Over the last 30-40 days I have been having issues with lag spikes and general lag during MP games. for example throw a grenade in Halo 5 MP I can count 3 slow seconds between me hitting the button and the grenade actually being thrown. I have gone through
loads and loads of troubleshooting steps with Virgin Media to no avail.

I remember when Xbox One first came out or at least 6 months after, I did the network test that shows the ping to the Seattle MS server the ping was 90ms 30 days ago my ping was 160 and this week its gone up again to 179. I have heard quite a few other people
complain about high latency (ping) with Virgin Media. and I was wondering what other peoples Pings are and what ISP they are with as I am now thinking of moving away from VM I've been with them sense Cable and Wireless days.

    :)

  3. Xbox One "best experienced" with IPv6

Most UK ISPs do offer it but not in standard packages. If you purchase a Business broadband package and ask for a static IP over dynamic IP it will most likely be IPv6

    Plusnet Fibre user here.

    Up to 77meg and i get 73.75

    Ping is 20.25

Never had any issues since switching to them and online gaming is as smooth as a baby bum.

    Hope this helps ;-)

Thanks Darth. Is that the ping from the xboxs detailed network test?

I wouldn't go by the Xbox ping test, I'm with Virgin with no problems have you checked your nat settings?

Pay no attention the network test on the xbox one as it isn't very reliable.

You need to use a couple of the speed tests from around the internet.

I'm with Virgin & my average ping is 18-23ms.If I use the test on the xbox one it's usually 3 times that.

Been with them for 9 years & never had an issue when playing on xbox live or PSN.

Yeah NAT settings are all fine. NAT says Open. Ive even gone direct to the virgin box (in modem mode) and still get the same issues. VM keep saying there are no issues on the line and no issues with the modem/router.

I cant understand why my latency used to be aroun 90 and now its 179 using the xbox test. ive put the issue down to that as im seeing lag in game and now that latency has gone up.

Try resetting your router and do a hard reset on the Xbox- hold the power button on front of the Xbox until it turns off then unplug it for 5-10 mins

  12. Have you ran a speedtest on www.speedtest.net? Might be worth a go to see what your upload speed is.

I had some trouble a while back streaming to Twitch from my PC. My streaming would suddenly lose 90%+ frames. Ran the speedtest and saw my upload speed dropped to around 250kb/s, which is ridiculous. But, the test prompted me to look at settings on my PC,
and I found the culprit: recently installed Killer Network software which prioritised network traffic, but did it badly. Disabled and upload speed back to 18mb/s.

I know you say you've ran all the troubleshooting, so forgive me for stating what's likely the obvious: have you completely unplugged your router/box and left it switched off for at least a minute? Have you also restarted your Xbox? IE, an actual restart,
not just a switch off and on?
