UHD stutters, freezes, audio drops and locks

I 100% understand your situation. I have to explain these things to people every day in my actual job what they need to do to enter and succeed in the Japanese market, and how they dont possess the miracle product that will change that situation.

You were methodical, reasonable, and logical, which means youre better than 99% od the people i deal with every day, so thank you i could retire today if I had $5 for every time ive said “....well i told you not to do that....”

My day job is the whipping boy. I interface between Asian companies and US licensors to bring IP in one direction or the other. Both sides can yell at me but not each other as you know, and im responsible for those relationships.

Well, I still think it's been hardware all this time otherwise it shouldn't recur even after system restores.

I unplugged the external drive. A 4K disc skipped again. This time it was Logan as I wanted to try a different one. I had made it through that one before over a year ago.

Finally, I tried something completely different. I bought the Sonic movie in UHD from the Xbox Store. It played from beginning to end flawlessly.

Definitely give that a shot. Eliminating any external, no pun, influences is where we’re at.

Do try giving the power issue a look see if you can. While your building may not be old, its still possible that with the heat arriving and things still ramping up theres been fluctuations. Worse comes to worse a fun lesson for the kids?

Yeah,60hz is the same as the U.S., so I doubt it as well. I do have an external drive attached though. Do you think that is somehow related? I am uncertain what it would do with it while a disc is playing,but you are the expert. Shall I try disconnecting
it?

As for the other person, thanks, I do know about clearing the bluray cache. I have doneit several times,but it doesn't seem to help or hinder.

I am in Osaka. Our building is just under 40 uears old. It was a "new town" not that long ago so I don't really see the power as an issue.

Just to add more info that may not be relevant... At least JP service when we called said it wasn't related and as they had "never heard of the issue before" it "couldn't be happening".

This is much more rare, but is gaming related;

There have been times, more often when playing backward compatible games, that the game will simply not accept input in one to two second bursts.

The latest example was Fable Remastered. While running around the first town at the start of the game you need to simply press a button to speak with people. My wife kept saying it wasn't working and when she handed me the controller, it did. That happened
again and I told her she must have been pushing the wrong button. She told me to keep playing and then I experienced it myself several times in a row until we decided to quit playing. As a dialogue window would come up there would be moments in which a button
press was immediately registered, and others in which I would press 5 or 6 times until the game "caught up" and started playing again.

Anyway, asI said, maybe unrelated, but I am just hoping that any of the issues I have had will be a clue that could lead to a solution that isn't I wasted my money and need to spend more.
