UHD Bluray playback - HDR not output correctly

There is a problem with UHD Bluray playback on the latest firmware. Yesterday I hooked up my brand new XBOX One X and everything was great. Games looked amazing. Forza 7 in HDR is fantastic with deep blacks, bright higlighst and vibrant colors. Just as HDR
should be.

The I tried playing back a few regular bluray discs and they looked as they should (SDR). Lastly I tried some UHD Bluray discs (Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy 2) which looked amazing on my old One S that I sold a little over a month ago to make room
for the One X.

But as soon as the UHD movies started playing something was off. My LG OLED C6 switched correctly into HDR mode (as it does on games with HDR like Forza or the Insects demo) but all the blacks were pale grey and all the colors were
washed out. I checked the TV input information and it was receiving a 4K HDR bt rec.2020 signal but it looked nothing like it used to.

Something must be wrong with the fall update and UHD Bluray playback because before the fall update everything was fine one my old One S and games still render perfectly in HDR. Only UHD movies are affected.

Please Microsoft, fix this issue

4K UHD Blu-ray problems - picture stuttering

Spent 2 and a half hours after this last update ruined everything.

Fix for me:

Uninstall/reinstall BluRay App

Set playback to stereo (Temporarily)

Disable 24hz, Disable 50hz, Enable HDR, Disable Amp controlling playback (under bluray)

- Shutdown xbox

- Power on xbox

- start playing any Bluray/UHD BluRay.

- Aslong as this works, start turning on features again

- Rewind UHD to begining, set your surround sound/atmos/amp decode audio.

 

No 4K without HDR (xbox one x)

you need hdr for 4k output

I don't think you fully understand

Uhd and hdr are required for 4k output

Unless you have an xbox one s not a x

You can't play in 4k

4k is only for.movies or streaming sources which require both uhd and hdr

But.xbox.one x will do 4k gaming

 

same problem here. Movies that looked great on my One S months ago look like crap on my One X now.

Known issue that appeared to be caused by October update. More and more people are reporting. Appears to be fixed in Delta preview, so hopefully will be out soon for public.

 

Thats nice to hear. Maybe I should jump back on the Delta ring. Have been an insider for years now. but haven't been been active since summer. Will report back if i decide to go off the official release version

 

Yes, if you do I'd like to know what you find. I joined yesterday, then realized I can't bump up to Delta unless I've been active for 2 months. Bummer.

I’m on the Omega Preview ring (omega is issued updates very soon before they hit general public and is easy for anyone to join). I received an update last night and it appears all HDR Black levels are fixed for Blu-Ray, Amazon HDR, etc. However that pesky
Netflix “always-on” HDR issue still persists, but that’s a different story. So if it hasn’t already I would think this should be pushed out to public very soon!

 

Thats fantastic news (excpet for the Netflix part. Why is that even still an issue? But as you wrote, thats a different matter )

 

Exact same problem with a OneX (purchased in January '18) on my Sony xbr75x940d. Games, the OneX's home screen, and even Mixer content all look gorgeous, but Guardians 2 uhd blu-ray is so dim it's unwatchable, and 4k hdr Amazon content appears in sdr.
Xbox gives the TV all green check marks. Amazon and Netflix content looks great in the Sony TV's app. I've searched the forums here and on reddit for a fix but have come up empty. Is this still an issue?
