    UHD Blu Rays


    Hi all. I have read many contradicting articles about the Xbox One being able to play UHD (4K) blu rays.

    Has anyone tried it, or could you guys give me your views or answers to this.

    I just want to know if i have to buy a 4K blu ray player or use the Xbox One.

    Is the Xbox One S worth getting for UHD playback?

    I think it is worth it for the UHD blu rays. Don't think it upscales standard blu ray but your tv will do that anyway.
    With the news that they are adding atmos too I think it is a bargain compared to other uhd players. Get a xbox as well thrown in.

    The xbox one does indeed support 3D and 4K blue-ray discs UHD Blu Rays :)

    It doesn't support 4K UHD playback.

    If you are referring to "Mastered in 4K" discs those are just 1080p titles made from a 4K master.

    New hardware is required to playback UHD Blu-Ray.

    Unfortunately the Xbox One does not support UHD BluRay discs. I tried it with Deadpool. The Xbox One hardware ( Disc drive) isn't capable nor is the HDMI spec capable. Kind of makes that "4K rated" HDMI cable it shipped with useless, huh? lol.

    Any high speed rated HDMI cable is 4K capable, so yes the label is useless. In fact the licensing entity of HDMI doesn't allow cables to be rated by resolution, only by speed and features.

    So you have a high speed cable with or without Ethernet, but you can't state on the labeling that it is 2K or 4K capable or you have a standard speed cable with or without Ethernet and again you can't state resolution capability. Data throughput rates are
    more important than resolution in any case.

    Are you playing these movies from a 4k UHD Blu Ray or streaming service? If from disk, have you updated the Blu Ray player app on the Xbox?

    Easy one first - Please double check that you are using the UHD disc and not the 1080p Blu-Ray disc of your movie.! I ts a UHD blu ray

    Where are you seeing that your Blu-Ray is only being shown in 1080p? Info button on my remote

    What movies are you experiencing this with? The martian

    Nope, not quite right.

    Original Xbox - DVD

    Xbox 360 - DVD (or more specifically, DVD-9).

    Xbox One - Blu-ray

    Xbox One S and X - UHD Blu-ray drive, but games still on standard Blu-ray.

    Scarlet will have a UHD BD drive so that can still play all formats of movie discs. Likely that games will be on 100GB discs.

    And 4k UHD Blu Rays are region free, although not so for most digital copies.
