Ubisoft trying "always online"?

Great idea by Ubisoft not caving into the petty sobs of "Joe Nobody" telling the world how games should be when he's actually got the attention span of a small potato.

Great games are made by Publishers and Developers with a vision and while a few people sulk because the Publisher failed to cater to their personal taste the rest of us have a chance to experience something new and exciting.

Well done Ubisoft.

:)

It has the potential to be great but it's Ubisoft. I hope they don't ruin it with online passes/passports and microtransactions.
You havent heard, Ubisoft ditched that awhile back

Aside from that, the division is the game Im looking forward to the most right now

Ubisoft always does a great job with their games, AAA developer and responsible for advancing game tech, almost always the first to set the high bar for other devs

The thing ubisoft and MS have both failed on is PR, they should have explained the reasons, explained why and explained the benefits and draw backs, and more importantly explained it well.

Instead everything is left to speculation, which leads to mis information, which could be avoided.
Wow, this thread and some people... I have a hard time understanding the "if you don't have access to (a stable) internet connection you shouldn't be playing video games". Why not? It's not like they're all multiplayer only nor will
they be in the next few years since people still want to play single player games judging by the game sales. I know this is off topic but I just had to comment on this. I mean, being poor isn't the only reason someone doesn't have a console connected to online...
Right there with you.

Randoms being able to bust into your game and bugger up your progress is not new or exciting , it can get old pretty quickly . As for UBI "punishing" the player who elects to play on their own for a while , for whatever reason , by resetting their stats
seems a little harsh IMO .

You guys are all jumping all over Ubisoft regarding a mechanic you don't even fully understand.

Yeah, some guy able to jump into a game to grief you is probably going to make for a frustrating time but do you seriously think Ubisoft don't know that?

Wait and see how the mechanics work before you all grab your torches and pitchforks.

I know people fear change but this is a little above and beyond.

i wasn't getting this anyway not for a good few months down the road but this sounds like a weak effort to get me online which makes me wonder what is so lacking offline that forces them to force me online, i hate random people i don't want to be invaded,
free roam on GTA and Red should be a testament to how effin annoying and c*ntish other people can be and now they can hop in my game, systems to prevent grief play never work and in the end become some sort of extra status symbol like hey look at me i am a
complete a*sehole.

And its not that i fear change but just advertise the game as an online game as it is, if punishment occurs for offline then it should clearly be stated so, it makes me feel like offline doesn't have the content to carry it hence needing people to come interfere
in my game and make me waste time doing stuff i really do not want to do... a needless timesink.

Az , the mechanic is right there in the OP , stats will be reset to zero if you fancy a bit of offline action , not much good if you then want to play with your mates online a few days later .

Again you're deciding how it works before you've seen it in action.

If people didn't do things differently we'd have never seen "Goldeneye", "Zelda", "Morrowind" or "Bayonetta" so I'll wait to experience it rather than simply writing it off for not playing the way I "think" it's going to play.

That doesn't guarantee it's going to be good mind but I'm glad to see somebody actually doing something innovative and different.

Wow, cant believe a thread I started got so many replies Ubisoft trying "always online"? :D

Anyway, I think the main problem with this whole "online/offline" debate isn't about how people decide to play the game. For me its the fact that Ubisoft themselves come out and say that they will punish us if we choose to disable the feature.

Now we don't know what happens if for example Ubisofts servers are down for any reason (probably will happen) will we get "punished" if we try and play?

We also don't know what happens if peoples internet is down and we try and play, would we get punished then as well?

Don't get me wrong I like the idea of entering other peoples games and messing around, especially when it

doesn't actually effect the other player directly.
What I don't like is the possibility of being punished, just because I choose to play offline/internet failure/server failure.
